Primitive grass tent or campervan campsite

Liked: Lovely views, good pitches for the tent, nice people.

Disliked: Very noisy until 10:30pm, very difficult to get the kids to sleep at a decent time. There was screaming and shouting non stop until then. The play area for the kids is very run down, slide has been taken off. The toilets and showers were ok but could be cleaner. Would maybe return with friends but definitely not with kids because of the noise.

Powered grass tent or campervan campsite

Liked: A couple of friends booked with our children - this is the second year in a row we have all stayed here, and yet again has been a lovely stay. The owners kindly ensured that our pitches were all together which we really liked. The site is clean and tidy, very safe for young kids and is nice and quiet. The kids all missed the slide from the park that used to be there, but that didn’t stop them playing in the park all day and evening (my youngest said the park was his favourite part of the trip!). They also loved being able to plane spot. It’s a lovely little site and we will be back again next summer for sure.

Powered grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Great base for exploring Cardiff and the surrounding towns and villages. The site itself is quiet and peaceful. The toilet and shower facilities are clean and we liked the fact that all guests muck in and clean up after themselves, as well as the owners giving everything a good going over every morning. Our 10 yr old had plenty of space for football, and it felt very safe. Owners were lovely too.

Disliked: Nothing to do with the actual site but the surrounding roads are very narrow and it can be a bit hairy meeting somebody coming the opposite way! Especially towing a caravan!

Powered grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Sorry not much to like.

Disliked: Nothing on site only toilets and showers, not very nice. In the middle of nowhere. Need extra transport to go anywhere. Nowhere near Barri. This site definitely not for us . If all you want is to stay on site doing nothing going nowhere, then this could be for you. We only stayed one night!!!

From the manager: Sorry we were not the correct site for you. Our details do state that we are a countryside location some miles from the nearby towns of Llantwit Major and Cowbridge. With the nearest pub being a 20min walk. Unfortunately there are no bus routes either as they have all been cancelled by our local council. Toilet and showers "not very nice" - this does not match with all our other recent reviews so sorry you didn't like them :-( If you are arriving in a Motorhome it is wise to have some other form of transport available or you will need to take the Motorhome with you and park up. Llantwit Major has a large free car park that will take motorhomes and give you access to the local train/bus station that has regular routes to Barry and Cardiff.

Liked: I liked the pitch space and being right near the toilets and showers. The showers were excellent, spacious and clean and there was even a hairdryer. The site was quiet and lots of dog walking areas. Great for beaches.

Primitive grass tent or campervan campsite

Liked: Lovely location, near to Barry Island where we wanted to visit as avid Gavin and Stacey fans. The toilet and shower block was very clean and I could see it being cleaned in the mornings by the lady who ran the site. She was very friendly and approachable. There were also signs in the toilet block with useful information including taxi numbers, local cafes and which takeaway delivered to the camp site. The block also had a washing machine annd tumble drier, as well as a fridge. Overall very happy with our stay.

Local attractions

Surf, canter, paintball, go-kart or have a coastal path amble along the nearby Glamorgan Heritage Coast, running for 14 miles from Porthcawl to Aberthaw (paintballing and go-karting along clifftop paths not recommended). There’s so much to see on this part of coast: after the ruins of 12th-century Ogmore Castle, follow the pathway to the village of Merthyr Mawr, backed by a maze of spectacular sand dunes, over 300 species of flower and the Big Dipper, the biggest sand dune in Europe – bring a sledge (really). Fancy fossil hunting? The nearby town of Llantwit Major is so ancient you can pick up Jurassic fossils on its Collugh beach (which has an Iron Age hill fort too). If you’re a surfer, the Collugh waves are a popular place; also get on board with things by veering west outside the Vale of Glamorgan to Porthcawl in Bridgend. Have another couple of days in Cardiff to see sights such as Cardiff Castle and Llandaff Cathedral, the very fab open-air National History Museum at St Fagans and the National Museum and Gallery of Wales.
