  • Spacious back to basics pitches at a pop-up Anglesey campsite
  • Five mins' drive to Anglesey Transport Museum; 20 mins to Newborough
  • A five-minute walk to Malltraeth's pub, café and shop
Make your way to Malltraeth for a laidback break at Glan Menai Camping – this pop-up site is about five minutes’ walk from the village centre, giving you the chance to stay in a peaceful rural spot that’s still got a shop, pub and café within very easy reach. It’s a pretty spot here, with grass pitches next to a viaduct and the Cefni river. There’s plenty of space for kids to run about and ride bikes, and dogs are welcome to join you too. Simple facilities stretch to a toilet block only (please note no showers) and handily there is a barbecue area where you can cook some dinner (and campfires are permitted too). It’s a very well located spot too, just a little way off a main road for easy jaunts around all of Anglesey or back over to Bangor, Caernarfon and Snowdonia. There’s plenty to explore all around, whether you’re heading for hikes on the coast path and inland trails, packing in as many as you can of the many (many many) lovely beaches or seeking out family attractions like the Anglesey Transport Museum and Pili Palas Nature World. And if your reason for being in Anglesey is onward travel, then it may be helpful to know that you can reach the ferry port in Holyhead with a drive of less than half an hour.

Local attractions

One of the great things about this particular site is the proximity of several things to keep the kids amused. Depending on their interests, you could take them for a wander along the recreated 1940s street at Anglesey Transport Museum (five minutes’ drive) to see vintage cars, bikes and the like, or let them see life underwater at Anglesey Sea Zoo (15 minutes). Pili Palas Nature World (20 minutes) is another popular place for a day out – here kids can meet meerkats, alpacas and lizards, follow a nature trail and wear themselves out at the adventure playground. Got something more grownup in mind? Take a stroll around Plas Newydd House and Gardens (20 minutes) or spend some time in Newborough Forest (20 minutes), where trails lead to a stunning sandy beach and the atmospheric Ynys Llanddwyn, a place associated with the Welsh patron saint of lovers.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Fantastic views, Wayne's a great chilled out guy and you can have as big a pitch as you like. Amazing value for money, but expect real wild camping with just the basic amenities. It's in a great spot for walking or touring Anglesey. Plenty of wood lying around to burn on your firepit.

Liked The staff were very helpful and helped blow up our air mattress when we forgot our car pump. They also gave good recommendations of where to go and visit around the area.
The bathroom was clean.

Liked We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Lovely flat field. Basic toilets. Drinking water. Kids enjoyed the trains.

Disliked Would have been useful to know before that local pub did not serve food.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Perfect for us. Plenty of space at the field, so no one was camping too close to us. In driving distance for beaches and bird watching, which was our main focus.

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Cheap back to basics site. Very friendly and helpful owners. Lots of space to spread out (or keep away from others in our case!)

Disliked Main train-line to Holyhead runs by the site - trains running all night. Would this put us off staying again? Probably not due to price and space but it is something to be aware of.
