  • Glamping pod at a family-run holiday park at Benllech on Anglesey
  • Beach five minutes’ drive; half an hour to Snowdonia National Park
  • Kitchenette and private garden with an outdoor stove and barbecue
Surrounded by woodland, fields, heather and gorse, Bwlch Holiday Park is a splendid spot for anyone angling for some quiet time on Anglesey. This small, family-run park is set down a quiet country lane on the edge of the small village of Benllech on the island's east coast, with little to disturb your holiday other than the sound of birdsong. Secluded it may be, but it’s also handy for days on the beach, sightseeing trips around the island and expeditions over to Snowdonia on the mainland. And with the village just a mile up the road, there's also quite a collection of cafés, takeaways and restaurants within 10 minutes’ drive Accommodation is in a rather dapper glamping pod, sleeping up to four people, with a comfy sofa (doubling as a bed) and a large-screen TV for lazy evenings or days when the weather’s not up to much. All you need to put together simple meals is provided in the kitchen corner (which has a microwave, toaster and fridge), as well as a few basic utensils and cleaning bits. Outside you have more cooking options: the private outdoor kitchen area has a gas stove, barbecue and picnic area, so you can go the full monty on self-catering – if you need to stock up on foodie supplies, there’s a big supermarket in Llangefni (10 minutes’ drive).

Liked: The area (as we used to live there.) Caravan was lovely for a couple of nights and on site were very accommodating. Would recommend to family & friends as we are moving back to the area.

Disliked: The mattress on the double bed. Bedroom had a funny smell. We were going to turn the mattress over as not very comfortable but it was badly stained on the underside smell could have been coming from there. Otherwise couldn’t fault it.

Bach 1 bedroom camping pod

Liked: it was in a lovely peaceful area, nice size pod with a god size tv, had small outside kitchen with hot water & hop, a nice size gas BBQ, had plates cups cutlery pans, -place to hang tops, comfy sofa and bed, you do need to take your own bedding witch I'm happy with, toilet was good size and small sink. dog friendly.

Disliked: the showers were looked and had to pay £2 to use, the garden area where you sat to have food was unkept and could do with a good tidy, the seal around the door and blind was broken, there was also a toilet unclean smell coming from the toilet.

Bach 1 bedroom camping pod

Liked: Quietness of camp site, quirky outside kitchen. Accessibility to all of Anglesey.

Disliked: Very poor standard of the pod itself. I'll fitting frontdoor and window. Broken door blind that you had too remove to put up,down or open the door. The toilet door didn't close at all. The shower block was bare chipboard and you needed a key to access it and that you locked in with you ,so if you fell like I did your partner couldn't get to you as you had your key. Extremely dangerous needs immediate attention

Bach 1 bedroom camping pod

Liked: Quiet site with no road noise. Very relaxing. The camping kitchen was great. Pod comfy and cosy. The field with football goals was welcomed by our teenage son. Didn’t use the clubhouse but was a good facility. Don’t be put off by paying for the showers, they are proper cubicles with hot, electric showers. Advertised as £2 per shower but it’s 20p per min, so was easy to have a 5 min £1 shower. Never had to queue as most of the caravans had shower facilities.

Disliked: Poor phone signal so difficult to plan ahead and check weather etc but not a problem once off site.

2 bedroom mobile home

Liked: A small friendly, welcoming site. Caravan clean and fit for purpose just with everything we needed for a weekend away, even accommodating pets which is a massive bonus! Ideal location with the beach a 5 minutes drive away. Easy to book and pay. Friendly host! We had left fathers day gifts at the caravan and once we realised we had contacted the host who was kind to post the gifts back to us! Thank you so much, we would love to return to the caravan again!

Local attractions

Your problem may be deciding which beach to hit up first. Dog-friendly Benllech beach (five minutes’ drive/half an hour's walk) has golden sand for families to play on as well as shallow waves for swimming and paddling. For any birdwatchers among you, the beach at Red Wharf Bay (10 minutes' drive) has an abundance of waders and waterfowl; meanwhile, if you want to catch some consistent surfing waves, head to the west-coast Rhosneigr beaches (half an hour). There are many ways to explore the island so it’s easy to abandon the car and embrace the fresh air. Cycle along quiet lanes, admire the countryside on horseback or walk the Isle of Anglesey Coastal Path – a particularly good section of the route starts in Moelfre (10 minutes), a pretty fishing village with displays on lifeboats and shipwrecks in the Moelfre RNLI Seawatch Centre. The landmark South Stack Lighthouse (40 minutes) sits atop a rocky crag and is open for tours, or you can learn about the island’s copper-mining tradition at the Copper Kingdom Centre (20 minutes). And of course, a short hop across the Menai Bridge brings all the active options of Snowdonia National Park (half an hour) on the mainland.
