  • Peaceful Llyn Peninsula site on the corner of Porth Neigwl surf beach
  • On the Wales Coast Path and 15 minutes’ drive from Abersoch
  • A 20-minute drive from the northern beaches of Porthor and Porth Iago
Like a real simple, relaxed break? Treheli Farm Campsite is a no-nonsense site on the Llyn Peninsula that caters to people who want to take a break from the everyday. It's quiet too, exercising a ban on music so that guests don't have any unnecessary distractions from the stunning views and relaxed atmosphere. Directly on the Wales Coast Path, the site is also well-situated for a good range of rejuvenating activities, from hiking over the coast to surfing, picnicking and rockpooling. The site is at the corner of Porth Neigwl and has sweeping views out over the water from a setting on a flat ledge a few hundred feet above sea level. Stretching on for four miles, Porth Neigwl is a popular beach for surfers, but if you'd rather stay on the sandy shoreline, it is also a sublime spot for unwinding with a book or picnic as it's sheltered from southwesterly winds. Abersoch is a 15-minute drive from Treheli Farm Campsite if you'd like to visit surf rental shops or a sailing school with powerboating, paddleboarding, kayaking and yachting. It also has plenty of delicious dining spots, ranging from Thai restaurants to Welsh delis.

Primitive grass and earth campsite

Liked: The location, the view, direct access to a completely unspoilt beach (albeit down a steep path… not for the less agile), super friendly hosts, the list goes on. Absolutely nothing to dislike in any way. Loved it.

Primitive grass and earth campsite

Liked: This is a great place and back to basics style camping where everyone is friendly and you can simply listen to the sound of the waves of an evening. The owners are great and can’t be more accommodating. The site is lovely and clean and perfect for a young family. The rules are simple. No music and keep 6 mtrs between you and the next person. All I can say is Thankyou for a wonderful week away.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike

Local attractions

While you might want to stick to swanning about Porth Neigwl for the whole of your hol in north Wales, other beaches on the Llyn Peninsula are also top for touring: try the curvy bay of Porthor (also known as Whistling Sands) a 20-minute drive away and pretty Porth Iago cove (20 minutes) on the northern coast for starters before driving eastwards to cute and compact Criccieth for its castle ruins and memorable views out over the coast. You can also steer away from the water towards Glasfryn Parc in the lush green hinterlands for bowling, wakeboarding, archery and a soft play area to suit smaller small sorts or drive 35 minutes to Yr Eifl carpark for family walks up to the peninsula’s highest peak. Older travellers – not to mention Italy aficionados – will appreciate visits to Portmeirion a 50-minute drive away for a Positano-style village built over the course of 50 years by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis full of colourful houses and posh eateries.
