  • Ensuite adults-only pods on a bridleway in the North Wales countryside
  • A 25-minute drive from Chester; 45 minutes from beaches and Liverpool
  • Kitchen and outdoor barbecue provided; pub and shops 20 minutes’ walk
What’s a break like at Honeypot Hideaways, on a quiet bridle path in the North Wales countryside? Pretty sweet, it seems, judging by the luxury pods that look out over the surrounding fields and the Cheshire Plain. It’s just as nice out and about – think rural bridleways, cycling trails and footpaths, as well as tracks in the hills, forests or beaches (being so close to the A55, the north Wales coast is 45 minutes’ drive or so from the site). So, with the coast a car ride away and cities such as Chester (25 minutes’ drive) and Liverpool (45 minutes) also within reach, it doesn’t have to be all about the countryside. However, the countryside is certainly spectacular, and the site is on a system of quiet bridle paths and footpaths whenever you want to stretch your legs. Feed your adventures with a visit to Higher Kinnerton, the local village. It’s a 20-minute walk into the centre, where there’s a country pub for those tasty meals out, a café for quicker bites and small shops when you’d rather take advantage of your pod’s fully-fitted kitchen. What’s at your disposal? A sink, a two-ring induction hob, a microwave and a fridge-freezer. Outside the pods are reclining chairs, a picnic table and barbecue when you want to dine under the sky or sit back and relax. Built from sustainable Siberian larch, the pod interiors are just as cosy and include double beds, a TV, a full ensuite with a shower and central heating.

Local attractions

Where to set your compass to first? Perhaps Chester (25 minutes’ drive)? Once a Roman city, this place has a complete city wall, the UK’s oldest racecourse and Chester Zoo (25 minutes). Boats and other watercrafts can be taken out onto the river Dee for a different view of the city too. When your mind is set on the seaside, Rhyl (45 minutes) has all the traditional sort of entertainment, including donkey rides, amusement arcades and a big aquarium. Colwyn Bay (45 minutes) is another great coastal stretch, three miles long. You might be in search of mountain hikes and outdoor sports. Snowdonia National Park (an hour and 10 minutes) has plenty of that sort of stuff. Mountain biking, climbing and cycling are also easy to get into on the Wirral (35 minutes) peninsula. Further on, go paddleboarding around the Albert Docks in Liverpool (45 minutes) and end your session in a bar or dockside restaurant. If you’re big on shopping, Broughton Shopping Park (15 minutes) has shops, a cinema, takeaways and restaurants. A little further out is the Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet Cheshire Oaks (25 minutes).

Liked: We had an amazing time at Honeypot Hideaways. We stayed here with our friends and the pods were so comfortable. The entire furnishing and quality of beds are premium! The view from the pods overlooking the fields is quite relaxing, and if you book all the 3 pods then the entire space would belong to you. The pods have fairy lights outdoor chairs to enjoy those clear evenings with stars overhead. Adrienne and Simon are so warm and friendly, they gave us suggestions on where to eat and what to see, treks around. They also put a bottle of bubbly for us to welcome us which was such a nice touch and made us feel so welcome after our long drive in. They accommodated all our requests and also provided us BBQ to celebrate our friends birthday, they are really welcoming hosts. I would highly recommend booking these pods as we had the best holiday in a long time after the covid lockdowns.

Disliked: There is nothing to dislike, the smallest of things were taken care of.

Liked: We stayed here for a Birthday celebratory weekend, the facilities could not have been better, from the beautiful view to the warm cosy pod at night looking out over the fields. Our hosts were friendly and extremely knowledgeable of the surrounding area and were more than happy to help during our stay. We will definitely be back and can't wait to sleep in the comfy bed again.

From the manager: Hi - Thank you so much for choosing Honeypot Hideaways and we are thrilled you enjoyed your stay. You were perfect guests (our very first !) and we hope to see you in the future. PS - we now have some little storage compartments above the bed to pop your phone / glasses in - a great idea from you both - many thanks. Best regards, Adrienne & Simon.
