  • A 10-minute drive to the beaches of Rhyl and Prestatyn
  • Catering on site from Friday eve to Sunday morning
Want to book yourself a break and do some good for the world at the same time? What an excellent idea – and one that you can bring to reality when you stay at Pet Rescue Fundraising Camp Site, a five-acre site in the Denbighshire countryside just outside the village of Dyserth. Profits from stays here go towards funding animal rescue and care – so perhaps it’s no surprise that dogs are welcome to join you for a little holiday here. Doggy daycare is available for those who need it and all dogs will need to be kept on a lead and supervised at all times (and you’ll need proof of full vaccination too). This location makes a splendid spot for exploring north Wales – a cycle path runs past the entrance with a link to the North Wales Coastal Route, and there are plenty of walks around too. Rhyl and Prestatyn are both about 10 minutes’ drive away for beach times, and there are castles, gardens and all sorts of other things to fill days with. You’ll probably get a bit of a warm glow from knowing that you’re supporting a charitable cause by staying here – and that’s likely to grow even stronger when you see the facilities that have been provided. A washing-up area, toilets and showers are all included, and you can boost your break even further by hiring a firepit, grass heat shields (these are required for firepits or barbecues) or a windbreak. Logs can be purchased on site for the firepits. And that’s not all – there’s also a catering area that serves up cooked breakfasts, lunches, dinners and drinks (hot, cold and alcoholic) as well as running events like pizza nights and hotpot gatherings. The catering is open from Friday evening to Sunday morning breakfast.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: We loved everything about the place: the staff, the cause, and the site itself. We were allocated a large, flat grass pitch on Site 1 and had plenty of room. Pitches are marked with rope and numbered, which made finding ours easy-peasy (I really appreciated the marked map given to us at reception, too!). We also received a voucher for free coffees at check-in, which was completely unexpected and so lovely of our hosts! As an ambulatory disabled person I found the site to be very accessible, and feel confident that if I'd required the use of my mobility scooter on the trip, I would have been able to get around just fine with it. This is a huge thing for me, as my mobility can vary depending on what I've dislocated recently, so if other campers reading this are ambulatory with occasional need for additional aids such as walkers, scooters or wheelchairs, I think you'd be pleased with this little gem of a campsite. There is a disabled toilet and shower on-site, but I didn't need to make use of them this time around. As for the facilities and amenities in general, there are toilet blocks with flushing loos and proper sinks near reception, along with free, hot showers, and a handy hot-water washing up station at the other end of the field. We were able to hire a firepit bundle for the duration of our stay which included the firepit, a heat shield to protect the grass, a bag of wood & firelighters. There is also a weekend pop-up bar and kitchen from Friday through to Sunday, and though we didn't order any food this time around, we thoroughly enjoyed popping into the bar! The biggest bonus of all was the ability to bring our four-legged companion along for the adventure. It can be hard finding dog-friendly campsites, especially ones run with such diligence and care. We were exceptionally reassured by the fact we were asked to present a valid vaccination record upon check-in. My one regret was not asking the lovely lady at reception for information on nearby dog walking routes as we got put off by the main road when we had a little scout about - so, if you book a stay, which I recommend that you do, make sure to ask (I'll be doing so the next time we visit). I'd like to say a big thank you to the owners - we'll be back, and in the meantime we'll be recommending Llewerllydd Farm to our family and friends. P.s. Phone signal was better than I anticipated, with an average of 2 bars, which was more than enough to send & receive text messages when necessary.

Disliked: There wasn't anything to dislike!

From the manager: Thank you for all your very detailed comments and your experiences while staying at our campsite and we are so pleased you all enjoyed your stay and the facilities. In the nicest possible way we hope when you visit again you will still not need the disabled facilities. The perimeter of site 2 (5 acers) has a dog walking path and there is another just of the car park down the side of the river but due to crop's dogs need to remain on leads. We enjoyed your company and look forwards to your return in 2025 season, I am sure others will find your review very helpful and informative so once again thank you. Stay safe, happy camping and safe travels

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: What a little gem. Don't be put off by the list of rules. We found it really helpful. Also stops all the silliness from other campers making a pleasant stay. Walks with the dogs straight from the campsite. Large flat pitches, clean toilets. Showers were rustic, but hot and had great water pressure. Much prefer to have a working shower than something that looks great but doesn't function. Free drink voucher handed to you on arrival. So we took advantage of the food trailer had our free coffee. Morning before we left we had sausage sandwiches which saved on us cooking and cleaning. Great friendly owners. Humans and dogs all had a brilliant weekend. We will be back again!

Disliked: Only one thing and it's the same for many sites. Internet isn't great.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: We are so pleased you all enjoyed your stay on our campsite and great photo's memories to treasure. We didn't have a WiFi system installed as the cost was in 4 figures and a lot of campers have there own connection via their provider or a dongle. Thank you for your recommendations to friends and family, we hope you all visit again and until then happy camping and safe travels

Disliked: Entry exit Close proximity to other people No place to wash yourself properly apart from showering.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Entrance and exit well signposted and had been widened and levelled this season. Hot showers are provided free as the hand wash sinks in the toilets are hand wash size not full body & cold water only. You were welcome to get hot water to wash from the hot pot wash sink in a bowl or bucket and go back to your caravan to wash. Did you not have a sink in your caravan?

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: Had two great nights here testing out the new tent and we touched lucky with weather.the pitch was great size for us,also the site just a 15 minute work from dyserth falls and a couple pubs one of which we tried out after the falls😉 not forgetting the banana ice cream from the cafe by the falls. We'd have no problem staying here again as it also has the facilities needed for a few nights camping.

Disliked: Only 1 dislike and it's nothing to do with rhe site.on our last night a family pitched up next to us and they was still playing music after 11pm and popping balloons.when people visit campsites you should follow the site rules and think of other campers.bust besides that we would stay again no problem

From the manager: I really cant apologies enough for the disturbance late at night, I did come round at 10.30 and reminded campers it was quite time. If you had rung the night number on your paperwork they would have had security down, however I did speak to them about it and they were sorry to have disturbed anyone. Thank for your comments and review and we hope to see you again. Happy camping and safe travels.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: Lovely area to stay in, close to both Rhyll and Prestatyn, site was lovely and clean! The lady on reception was very helpful making sure we knew everything!

Disliked: On the map it said there was a shop but it wasn’t open. i feel like there needed to be toilets on each end of the fields as we had to walk over 3/4 of the field in the middle of the night. The toilets did have many spider webs in and only one sink was working.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: The pull up metal roof on the shop is broken so that's why it's not open but there are shops 10 minutes away. We are unable to have toilets down the field as they require electric and a very large effluent tank, sorry. The walk is only a few yards, you could have hired a small portable loo for on your pitch but it possible wasn't worth it for your one night stay, PS the sink taps work on pressure, just push the button on the tap and yes SPIDERS live in the country side and can build a web quickly but on the other hand they do catch the midges (that saves you getting bitten on the bum and moths when campers leave the doors open at night:) at lest the lights are on. See you again, ask about a little loo on your next visit, until then happy camping and safe travels thanks for the recommendations

Local attractions

Time to hit the coast? Take your bucket and spade to the sandy beaches of Rhyl or Prestatyn (both 10 minutes’ drive), get over to Llandudno (half an hour) to walk on the pier and ride the Great Orme tramway, or continue to Conwy (half an hour) to explore the castle. For rural walks you can stay local for the 15-minute stroll to Dyserth Falls, climb the peaks of the neighbouring Clwydian Range or dip your toes into Snowdonia National Park (40 minutes’ drive). The pretty pathways of Bodnant Garden (half an hour) are well worth a wander too. This being Wales, you’re never far from a castle – the turrets of Rhuddlan Castle (five minutes) are the closest, but TV fans may like to drop in at Gwrych Castle (15 minutes) to see where I’m A Celeb was staged.
