Powered grass campsite

Liked: Was lucky when we were there, their was only us and 2 other tents. It’s the quietist camp site I’ve ever stayed at. No road noise at all and even though there is a river you couldn’t hear it at night. Also we had electric hook up and on the back of every electric point there is running drinking water. Really nice touch, so you don’t have to go far for it. It was a shame there was a big light above us because it could have been classed nearly as a dark sky. The stars looked fantastic.

Disliked: Like all the reviews have said the distance to the toilets is a major issue when camping. It probably takes 2-3mins fast walking. Also there is only 2 toilets in the men’s and 1 shower. So it would be really annoying if the site was busy and you’d made the walk and it was full. A suggestion to the site put some porta loos on the tent pitch. A cheap and quick answer. Would have been 5 stars other wise.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: Option to pitch up alongside our friends (8 Adults, 7 Children in total in our party) Welcoming staff, and friendly people, great pub for food on site

Disliked: Longer walk to toilets but fine as out children old enough to to tell us when they need to go before they are desperate.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: How welcoming staff and other people were and the added extra of pub on site for food and drinks. Children enjoyed fishing in the lake and playing in the park.

Disliked: slightly long walk to toilets for those will smaller children but didn't impact our stay at all.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: Lovely open spaces. Plenty of space in tent field, could pitch as close or as far away from others as you wanted. Nice splay area for children. Clean toilet block with plenty of hot water. Very friendly and welcoming staff on site. We didn't visit the pub or shop but heard good things about them.

Disliked: A little bit of a walk from the tent field to the toilet block, hard to rush to the toilet with little ones.

Local attractions

With Eryri/Snowdonia National Park to the west and the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to the south-east, there’s a lot of hiking accessible from this site. You could set your compass towards Lake Vyrnwy (35 minutes' drive), just outside of Snowdonia, for a day of lakeside walks, watersports and cycling followed by a cream tea – or perhaps head up towards Pistyll Rhaeadr (45 minutes) for a four-mile hike with a reward in the form of a spectacular waterfall. Add some historical elements to your holiday in the Shropshire Hills AONB. The Mitchell's Fold Stone Circle (35 minutes) still stands from the Bronze Age and the moorlands of the surrounding Stapeley Hill make for another splendid walk. Then there are the Stiperstones (45 minutes), a cool ridge that's made up of rocks that are hundreds of millions of years old – another place for a good long wander. When you’re ready to muck into the rural way of life, head to Park Hall The Countryside Experience (40 minutes), a farm with play areas that has opened its doors for families to get involved in animal activities like meeting the alpacas or watching the pig racing.
