Our sky viewing dome, to look at the night skies. with the rolling welsh hills behind.

  • Peaceful escape in a dark skies community on the Welsh border
  • Riverside setting a mile from the market town of Presteigne
  • Dog-friendly site; stargazing dome with telescope
Sitting alongside the River Lugg and with views of the hills, Rockbridge Park is a super spot for a relaxing break away from busy everyday life. This small family-run site on the Wales-England border is within easy reach of days out around the countryside, plus the villages and towns of Powys and beyond.
When not roaming the region, spend time lying back on site with your nose in a book, fishing in the river or setting off on strolls nearby. Even a wander around the site has its rewards – look out for the dragonfly and wind sculptures, then relax by the waterfall while you take in the views. Four-legged friends are welcome to join you here too – they’ll be able to scamper around at the secure dog walk or accompany you on one of the many trails running from the park. And don’t worry about them getting into muddy puddles – a dog wash back on site will take care of that. Facilities for human guests are nicely thought out too, with wifi, hot showers, a launderette and a fridge among the provisions. The highlight, however, surely has to be the stargazing dome – kitted out with a telescope and bean bags, it’s a great spot to take advantage of Rockbridge being in a ‘dark skies community’. Heading out, it’s a five-minute drive to Presteigne, a traditional Welsh market town with a good selection of pubs, restaurants, takeaways, cafés and shops (most of them dog-friendly). For other places to visit nearby, chat to the team on site – they’ve always got lots of top tips to dish out.

What customers say

Rockbridge Park gets rave reviews for its stunning riverside setting, tranquil vibe, and spotless condition. Visitors love the friendly staff, tidy sites, and great amenities like the dog wash and stargazing dome. Despite a few minor gripes about shower buttons and tricky narrow roads, it's overwhelmingly popular, with many eager to come back.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Very good sized pitch, whole site well laid out and clearly marked out. We were backed on to the river where we found it peaceful.
Very welcoming staff on arrival.
Facilities were clean and easily accessible.
The whole site was very tidy and interesting walks from the site.
We didn’t use the dark zone viewing zone but will next time.
Great dog friendly site which is very important to us. On arrival they give the doggy guest a ball, there is a secure space for off lead and even a dog shower.
Presteigne and Knighton close by, both small villages well worth a visit.
Loved the place, second visit and will be going again.

Marlow 2 bedroom mobile home

Liked Beautiful location and views.
Quiet and peaceful holiday park.
Great area for dogs, ours loved it.
Warm and cosy accommodation and very well furnished with everything you could need.
Nice little welcome pack for humans and dogs.
Excellent shower.
Double bed very comfy.

Disliked A little bit dusty in some places of the lodge, mostly lights and lampshades.

We enjoyed some beautiful wintery Welsh weather and unfortunately the pipes froze, so on one of the days we had nearly 4 hours without running water. Rang the emergency number and both people that I spoke with were lovely but not able to help too much with a solution until the pipes had thawed out. They offered us access to a washroom, however it was locked. Might be an idea to have some lagging put around the outside pipes to prevent this from happening in future.

From the manager: Thank you for your lovely review. We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay with us here at Rockbridge Park over the New Year and fr you kind comments. We have taken on board about the lagging and is something we will be looking into due to the weather. Its the first time we have let the Holiday Home during December.

We cant wait to welcome you back to Rockbridge Park.

Definitely one to go back to.

Local attractions

Presteigne is a compact spot but it’s well worth swinging by for a look at The Judge's Lodging, an award-winning museum five minutes’ drive away that gives an insight into the grandeur of the masters’ lives on the top floors versus the servants who lived down below. Not so much further on is Knighton (10 minutes) with its community and arts centres for rainy days, along with a local railway link and access to Glyndŵr's Way for wanders along a path named after a Welsh legend. Another 10 minutes (20 from the park) from there is the Small Breeds Farm Park and Owl Centre for a glimpse of animals ranging from miniature horses to nocturnal birds. Top towns are scattered around this rural region too: think Leominster (30 minutes away) for sights like grand Berrington Hall (40 minutes) with its views over to the Black Mountains; the famed book and festival town of Hay-on-Wye (35 minutes); or Ludlow to see the castle and Tudor buildings or peruse posh boutiques (40 minutes).
