Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: This mine and my family's first time camping. It was quite a large group of us and we all fell in love with this site. Beautiful site, the kids loved seeing the cows, peacocks and the friendly dogs. There was a trampoline where the kids entertained themselves whilst we set up the tent. Very spacious, peaceful and quiet. The owner and his family were so kind and helpful. The grass was quite wet when we arrived so the cars were struggling up the hill. They helped us take all of our stuff in their tractor for us. Unfortunately we had to cut our stay short because the rain was relentless. In the middle of the night whilst it was pouring they helped take all our belongings down to our car. We are already plotting our next time back here. Thanks so much to the owner and his family for their kindness, we cant wait to come back.

From the manager: Such kind words , sorry about the weather as you did not get a chance to enjoy the extensive walks and bridleways from the site together with the stunning views . Hope you can come again when weather is better and we will also have a zip wire for the children if you return . Many thanks again and sorry about rain !

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Not crowded. Nice scenery. Quiet setting

Disliked: Compost toilet contrary to what is mentioned at the website as "block toilet". We had to go to a nearby superstore each morning for toilet as it was too late to cancel and see for other campsites. Physical reception near to non existent, very poor or non existent network so call to the site owner very difficult. Most places at the site are sloppy. Initially booked for the weekend but later changed to a weekday 3 weeks prior to the day of visit but owner refused to update it in the system without giving any specific reason and I had to pay the weekend price which is more expensive.

Powered gravel RV campsite

Liked: Amazing views, access to the footpath right from the site, friendly owner.

Disliked: I understand it is a working farm however it is very untidy The shower/WC is nice however there is only 1 shower/toilet, if somebody is having a shower you cannot use the toilet as they are in one room. There are no pitches as such, it is a gravel car park and I struggle to see how you could fit 5 vans and still have some outside space. At £35 a night I just feel it is very overpriced.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: We had a lovely stay. This campsite definitely lives up to it's name. The view was amazing! Nice and big field so you had loads of privacy away from other campers.

Disliked: The trial toilet and shower in the field are a no from me. However there's a normal toilet and shower by the house we could use.

Liked: Close proximity to Green Man Festival site. Free range eggs. Spectacular views. Great walking. Pleasant host, Chris. Quiet, despite being on the A40 to Brecon. Bird life.

Disliked: Steep road into site might cause problems for some, non committed drivers.

Powered gravel RV campsite

Liked: It says what it is - rustic / basic no fills and amazing views Lovely small plot for I’d say 4-6 motor homes / campers with electric hookup and separate field for tents Fresh eggs, chickens and peacocks roaming free with the owners 2 dogs and 4 ponies in the field It’s all about the view, peace and quiet Lovely walk behind the site

Disliked: Very basic could do with a good tidy a bit of care would be 10/10 for us rustic does not have to mean untidy, but it’s what it says a working farm As described it’s a steepish narrow lane to the pitch but we have a small morphine it was easy enough as we didn’t meet anything the other way lol

Local attractions

If it’s time to get active in the bracing Brecon Beacons air, pack yourselves off to Llangorse Multi Activity Centre (10 minutes’ drive) to test your mettle on rope courses and indoor climbing walls (the latter is a useful option if the weather turns on you) or go pony trekking on heather-covered foothills. There are several golf courses within 20 minutes’ drive, while competitive types can race each other around the off-road track at Battle MX (20 minutes) motocross track. Black Mountain Activities (20 minutes) is the place for all things water-related – here you can have a go at canoeing and gorge walking. For gentle family-friendly ambles with scenic views, Llangorse Lake (15 minutes) has waymarked trails around its shoreline, while the track through dramatic Clydach Gorge (25 minutes) leads past an old tramway to the long-abandoned remains of ironworks and quarries. To delve into local history, take a tour of the monumental Norman tower and mellow-stone medieval mansion at Tretower Court and Castle (10 minutes) – once the hangout of Welsh bards – and if you fancy a day rummaging in the bookshops of Hay-on-Wye, the market town is a half-hour’s drive away.
