  • Small, friendly glamping site on a family-run smallholding
  • A 10-minute drive from Brecon; stunning Brecon Beacons views
  • Cosy bell tents with bunting, lighting and woodburning stove
Now here’s a peaceful and pretty spot for a glamping break – Caecrwn Retreat is part of a family-run smallholding in the Powys countryside, just outside the Brecon Beacons National Park and with lovely views of South Wales’ highest point, Pen y Fan (a fine backdrop for an evening by the barbecue…) Although this location feels really very rural, in fact it’s about a 10-minute drive from Brecon, a handy hub of all sorts of things from supermarkets and restaurants to boat hire, bike hire and evenings at the theatre. The surrounding area is an excellent one for outdoor activities of various kinds, including horse riding, watersports and mountain biking (as well as hikes up Pen y Fan and other peaks, of course). You can wear yourselves out as much as you like on those active days, safe in the knowledge you’ll be coming back to a nice comfy place to stay, in a bell tent that’s been kitted out with much of what you’ll need for a good glamping break. Proper beds are made up for your arrival, and there are lots of nice cosy furnishings to make everything comfy inside the tent. A woodburning stove is supplied with plenty of firewood to help keep you warm too. It’s likely you’ll want to have a go at cooking outdoors if the weather’s good – there’s a barbecue provided, along with a picnic table and outdoor furniture. On damp days, or just when you fancy something quickly, you can head into a covered kitchen area to use the cooker instead. Either way, you’ll be provided with a cool box to keep your food fresh during your stay.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: This is a beautiful spot. The scenery was lovely. Everyone was polite and helpful. It's far out of the way, which I love. Quiet and peaceful. Best bit was meeting Freddie, River and Brook, the resident dogs.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Very nice area with some really lovely views. So many different animals everywhere and the owners had some adorable friendly dogs. Owner was really nice and helpful gave us a list of things to do and even a foraging lesson. The whole experience was really easy and so peaceful.

Disliked: The shower is uncovered and cold so not ideal when weathers horrible but better than nothing.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Great location, beautiful views all round of the Brecons. A charming little campsite, absolutely amazing value for money, cooking facilities, toilets and a shower, although the shower is cold bit still OK for a quick wash. Charging station for phones etc.. very welcoming on arrival and also they were happy to swap out our defrosted ice packs for frozen ones to keep our food cold. The kids had lots of space to run around in, and the owners dog's are friendly and kept my children entertained. All in all a lovely small campsite. One I will most certainly return to.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike. Maybe a clearer sign at the entrance.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Lovely, peaceful and quiet setting. All facilities were exactly as described. The bonus is the small outdoor kitchen which is free of charge to use. The hosts were friendly, chatty, helpful and hospitable.

Disliked: I selected this campsite because it is advertised as dog free. Unfortunately the owners have 4 large dogs that roam regularly scavenging for food. They were generally unattended and a bit of a nuisance. There were dog faeces around the kitchen area.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Beautiful location and incredibly friendly hosts. We sang songs into the night around a fire and toasted marshmellows with each other, other families and the host and her children. It was perfect. The wifi was impeccable and extended right up to the field. The hosts offered to show us the horses, guinea pigs and the chickens if we liked. I stayed with my twin brother, who is autistic, and we found the noise levels lovely and quiet for most of the time. However, one night there was some bass music that we could hear from the guest cottage, which was a little annoying, but no noise from the campsite itself. The campsite had a lovely community feel, with a wonderfully clean kitchen, with everything you could possibly need. The cold shower was something to be braved, but was refreshing none the less. Thank you for a lovely stay.
