  • Butterfly House 20 minutes’ drive; Coed y Brenin Forest Park an hour
  • Heated indoor pool; clubhouse with bar and restaurant; dogs welcome
Ready for stunning views of Cardigan Bay and spectacular sunsets over the sea? Sounds like a trip to the west coast of Wales is on the cards, then. And when you do make your way to Ceredigion, you should certainly consider a stay at Aber Bay Holiday Park. This peaceful, family-friendly spot is just north of Aberystwyth, which you can reach by car (10 minutes’ drive) or via a splendid walk along the Ceredigion Coast Path (45 minutes), all the while taking in more of those unforgettable bay views from the clifftop. After all this talk of bays and coastlines, you might be wondering: just how close is the beach from the site? Well, Clarach Beach is about a 30-second walk away: literally just across the road and a patch of grass – how convenient is that? On days when the water is too rough (or too cold) for you, you can retreat to the indoor (heated) swimming pool, or just admire the sea from the terrace of the clubhouse, where you can gaze upon a vast stretch of coastline with a glass of something chilled in hand – or with a meal from the restaurant. Meanwhile, the kids can busy themselves in the outdoor play area or in the games room… Dogs are welcome at the site, and they can also join you on the beach (provided they stay on the north side of the river Clarach); they should have a jolly good time exploring rockpools and hidden coves.

What customers say

Great location with sea views & beach access, and a well-liked clubhouse. Families enjoy amenities/activities. Downsides: cleanliness/availability of restrooms, separate campsite inconvenience, check-in/out time issues, pool fees, and slow food service.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Lovely little site, going to sleep hearing the sea was calming and lovely and restaurant to relax in with very comfortable sea views and very reasonably priced. Toilets were spotless and well lit at night

Disliked Only thing would be if was busy, pitches are close together so would feel a bit cramped but they do space you out if not busy so was fine for us

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Everything, beach is so close you can hear the waves at night, children had lots of space to run around, facilities were brilliant clean and always restocked, will definitely be returning

Disliked That you couldn’t use a charcoal bbq due to hot weather which was understandable but should have been stated somewhere but this didn’t stop us enjoying ourselves still.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Lovely little family camping site. The warden was lovely. Pitch up made a mistake and booked us as trailer tent but that was rectified quickly by Aber bay. Will definitely return kids had a blast. Love that it’s close to the beach. Very clean toilets and showers, and washing up facilities on site. Ice cream man came round the site. Lovely little area in the middle for children to play.

Disliked Security at night enforcing cars to move (as per the rules) but others kept driving back annd staying and felt like one rule for one etc. grass was quite spikey. It was great that the warden came round collecting any rubbish if needed however having the bins right at the bottom near vehicles thought they should be nearer washing up facilities in my opinion. Did not shower the children as the shower came out very hot, washing facilities had no hot water just cold something to look at.

Local attractions

If you make your way to Aberystwyth on foot along the Ceredigion Coast Path, you’ll reach Constitution Hill in about 25 minutes. Once there, stop for a coffee and to check out the Camera Obscura (in a pagoda-like building), before taking the Aberystwyth Cliff Railway into town, and then a steam-train ride to Devil’s Bridge Waterfalls on the Vale of Rheidol Railway. The Magic of Life Butterfly House (20 minutes), in the Rheidol Valley, recreates a tropical rainforest setting for its colourful winged residents, who will happily land on your body as you walk among them. Other beasties here include beetles, caterpillars and stick insects, plus poison dart frogs. In Eryri National Park (Snowdonia), Coed y Brenin Forest Park (an hour) has a purpose-built mountain-bike park with routes for all levels of ability (and a skills area where you can determine which are the most appropriate trails for you), plus numerous and well-marked hiking paths.
