  • Just two miles from the North Coast 500; 10 minutes’ drive from Wick
  • On a working croft half an hour’s walk from the local pub
Trundling along the North Coast 500 and in search of a handsome spot to put down roots for a while? If your wishlist includes sea views, friendly owners and a pub within walking distance, The Croft Certificated Location is a jolly good spot (just note it's for Caravan and Motorhome Club members only). Small, quiet and friendly, the site is just two miles from the North Coast 500 and also within half an hour’s walk of a pub serving food. Next to the pub, there are bus stops with routes to Wick, Thurso, Golspie and the surrounding areas. Being right on the scenic east coast of the Scottish Highlands, expect stunning views over the North Sea and the Moray Firth. Dolphins, seals and deer are often spotted from the pitches. Less often, you may see orcas or the Northern Lights (this last one generally happens during winter). The east coast also has fewer midges than the west, which may be handy to know. And what about the practical details? The large, level hardstanding pitches are easy to drive onto and have a metered electric hook-up (for an additional fee). The pitches are 6 x 10 metres, and an additional grassy area (four metres wide) is provided for awnings. You’ll need to be self-contained, as there are no showers or toilets on site; the utility area has fresh water, grey water and toilet waste disposal and rubbish and recycling facilities, however. Good news for those bringing a four-legged companion – the John o'Groats Trail runs right past the site, so there’s plenty of walking to get stuck into. A short drive away is a pebble beach where guests can launch their kayak or paddleboard to see caves and cliffs, or simply sit and listen to the waves.

This clean, quiet, well-kept site boasts amazing sea views & cliff walks. Reviewers loved the friendly, helpful owners offering fresh eggs/homemade goods. Pitches are large, level & peaceful, some with farm animal/sea vistas. Remote for tranquility & great night skies, with a nearby cove for water fun. Minimal facilities (no showers currently) weren't an issue for most. Grey waste disposal being upgraded.

Liked the guy that runs the site is spot on. It's very clean very tidy. Very quiet the views of the sea and the wind farm lit up at night is fantastic. Great cliff top walks in both directions. Little cove to go sit by the sea/ rock climb and kayak from. Will be back for sure best site I have been to yet in Scotland

Liked Great views of the sea , close enough for wick , john o groats , wildlife close by . Pitches well kept .

Disliked No shower block , which they are in the process of addressing.
We knew this before going so it wasn't a problem.

Liked The site was clean and quiet. Lots of farm animals behind the pitch, but they kept the noise down and didn't disturb us. The facilities were minimal, but we knew this before we booked. The EHU worked well and Chemical waste was clean. The owners were lovely and friendly and I was given a Turkey egg to try.
Very big skies if you're lucky enough to get no clouds. Great views to the sea.
The pitch was big and level and gave us an excellent night's sleep.

Disliked Stopped in the local pub for a quick pint beforehand, but it wasn't very welcoming and had very limited veer choice.
My advice, go straight to the croft site with your own beers.

Liked Super friendly and welcoming couple own the site. There are turkeys, hens and pigs on their land and it the pitches overlook these and the sea horizon. Pitches are flat and super quiet. There is a cove two mins walk from the pitches.. Absolutely beautiful. Even though we had to be self contained, the chemical, waste and water facilities were great. We didn't mind at all! Absolutely loved our stay

Liked You will wonder where on earth you are heading but trust the SatNav!
Lovely couple in the farmhouse , bought some delicious eggs and watched the sun go down over the sea through the windscreen.
Full mobile phone coverage too.
Well maintained site and would recommend it.

Liked Clean site in fantastic location with large pitches. Friendly, enthusiastic staff. Honesty box for homemade items and fresh eggs. If you want peace and quiet and to walk or see wildlife this is for you.

Disliked Grey waste is difficult but plans are already in motion to improve this.

Local attractions

These pitches are within striking distance of Wick (10 minutes’ drive), a former Viking settlement with castle ruins, a splendid bay and a heritage centre with old fishing artefacts. Continue north for Sinclairs Bay (20 minutes), which has gorgeous white sand and decent surf at most times. ​Whaligoe Steps (10 minutes) are a stunning set of steps that wind down a 250-foot cliff to the harbour (frequented by herring, whitefish and other fish). Also on the coast is John o' Groats (35 minutes), a popular departure point for plenty of boat trips like rib rides and seal-spotting. It’s also near to the Duncansby Stacks (35 minutes), a scene that's surely worthy of your photo albums. A drink to wash all of that down? Old Pulteney Distillery (10 minutes) runs tours where guests can try the Old Pulteney single malt whisky.
