  • Safari tent glamping on a 100-acre farm above Scotland’s oldest dam
  • Walks straight from the site and a 25-minute drive to Stirling
  • Rolltop bath, well-equipped kitchen, board games, fresh eggs for sale
If masses of space for sprawling out in Stirlingshire is what you’re after, that’s just what you’ll get on a glamping trip to Dam View Lodges. Within minutes on foot from Gartmorn Dam, Scotland’s oldest reservoir, this park is among 100 acres of farmland where you can wander into the wild setting straight from the front door of your safari tent. The family-sized lodges here are pretty plush: expect crisp white sheets on a kingsize bed in sleeping spaces and vintage leather sofas in open-plan living rooms prime for gathering the clan together for card and board games from the blanket box provided. Need a little time to yourself? You can plunge into the rolltop tub for a soak, opening the back of the tent to bathe in the bubbles with a view… Chuck some logs on the woodburning stove to make sure it’s not too nippy when it’s time to towel off, then turn your mind towards fodder – you can make meals in the well-equipped kitchen with meat and fresh eggs bought from the site or use the breakfast and barbecue packs (just order in advance). Here in the summer? Ask the owners about visiting the turkey chicks, or in other seasons take smaller members of the clan to Briarlands Farm, 35 minutes’ drive away, for a petting zoo and berry picking. Thrillseeking kids can get their kicks at the extreme go-karting track 30 minutes down the road in Falkirk. Days out on foot could be spent at Gartmorn Dam Country Park, reachable along the reservoir with plenty of pathways to ply. Tired out from trotting or biking about, you can then return to Dam View Lodges and sit until sunset on the outdoor decking with views of the water you just left behind…

Local attractions

This centrally located Scottish site is a 30-minute drive from The Battle of Bannockburn Visitor Centre, a hallowed place where Robert the Bruce defeated English forces during the medieval era. Learn about the history then loop back towards the site five minutes north of here to the centre of Stirling and walk upwards for the famed castle towering over the town and its lush green surroundings. Those who like to scale inclines can also take on treks around the Ochil Hills within 30 minutes of the site… while those who prefer to recline can lie down for primping sessions at a spa around the same distance away. If a livelier lope around two of Scotland’s most buzzing cities is what you fancy, the centres of Glasgow and Edinburgh are 50 minutes and an hour and 10 minutes away from Dam View Lodges respectively.
