  • Morayshire campsite in Alves, 10 minutes’ drive from Roseisle Beach
  • Moray Malt Whisky Trail 10 minutes drive; Cawdor Castle half an hour
  • Petting farm, play areas and dog park; small store at reception
Set in the grounds of a 19th-century former farm and surrounded by countryside, North Alves Holiday Park is a peaceful family-run campsite on the outskirts of the rural village of Alves in Morayshire. It’s easy to find and access too, as it’s just off the main A96 trunk road running between Inverness and Aberdeen. Touring caravans, campervans, trailer tents and tents are welcome on the camping fields, where facilities include a dedicated dog-exercise area, spotless amenity blocks, a TV room and a small shop selling local crafts and regional produce like fudge and sticky lollipops (ssssh, don’t tell the kids). Quite apart from the supply of sugary treats, youngsters are likely to fall in love with this place as there are indoor and outdoor play areas, as well as – and this is the best bit – a small petting farm on-site with a variety of friendly animals, including donkeys and Highland cows, to meet, feed and cuddle. Close by is stunning Roseisle Beach (10 minutes’ drive) for days of digging sand castles and paddling in the North Sea. Should it rain, simply divert everyone to the indoor swimming pool at Moray Leisure Centre in Elgin (15 minutes).
