Pitch looks over a leafy garden
Secure private driveway

  • Private motorhome pitch near Craigstone Wood in Kilsyth, Lanarkshire
  • Stirling Castle 25 minutes’ drive; central Glasgow half an hour
  • Private and secure parking in a driveway with garden; quiet location
Whether you’re exploring central Scotland for a couple of days or overnighting on your way north to the glens and lochs of the Highlands, the single pitch at Barci makes a handy stop if you’re travelling in a motorhome. For starters, the pitch is just off the main A803 trunk road connecting into the M80 (for central Glasgow) and the M9 (for Stirling and Edinburgh). Secondly, it’s set overlooking a leafy garden in a secure domestic driveway on the edge of Kilsyth in Lanarkshire, and thirdly, it’s within 20 minutes’ walk of shops and supermarkets if you’re going down the self-catering route, and pubs and cafés if you’re not. When you’re keen to stretch your legs – and those of any accompanying canine friends – there are several pretty walks along the shores of Banton Loch (five minutes’ walk), and woodland strolls through Craigstone Wood country park (the entrance is right opposite the pitch). Simple but useful amenities available include a charger point for electric vehicles and recycling facilities.

Primitive gravel and cement/asphalt RV campsite

Liked On a private driveway, as expected. Friendly & informative owner. Beautiful walks just across the road ( a hidden gem!) Great stopover point for a night

Disliked Next to a rather busy and noisy main road.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: You are right - the main road is a bit noisy around rush hours, but most of the time its fairly quiet. The thing that wakes me up first is the Pigeons - they bonk on the roof!

A pleasant one night stop.

Local attractions

There’s quite an array of things to do around Kilsyth. There are two golf courses within 10 minutes’ drive, a swimming pool (five minutes) and a riding school 15 minutes’ walk away. For more high-adrenaline action, you can also go rock climbing in Auchinstarry Quarry Park (five minutes’ drive), or mountain biking around the rugged shoreline of Carron Valley Reservoir (20 minutes). Serious hikers may like the sound of clambering up to the summit of Meikle Bin from the car park (half an hour) for spectacular views back over the reservoir, or the trek up to the dramatic Loup of Fintry waterfall (25 minutes). Further afield, the shops, restaurants and world-class art museums of Glasgow are half an hour away by car, and you can learn about Scottish heritage on a visit to Stirling Castle (25 minutes) or The National Wallace Monument (half an hour). Edinburgh (an hour) beckons with its own mighty castle, medieval tenements to explore on The Royal Mile and old-world pubs tucked into the elegant Georgian-era New Town.
