Liked: Easy check, pick your secluded pitch, picnic bench was a bonus( pitch 6), spotlessly clean, great toilets and showers, great location surrounded by Christmas trees, lovely sunrise, quiet and peaceful, great start point for the NC500.

Liked: Beautiful trees and massive pitch. Room for Campervan, awning and lots of space around. Even our own wooden picnic table. Big shower rooms with sink and toilet. One point down for mud rather than shingle pitch site.

Disliked: Out door washing up with no shelter in pouring rain. But I can embrace that with my trusty dryrobe to keep me warm and dry!

Liked: Forest setting with lots of birds and trees. Facilities look new and worked well. Because we’d prebooked and paid we could choose own pitch. We saw but didn’t use waste emptying or water filling but all looked straight forward. It was a really peaceful night. Wi-Fi worked very well thank you.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Quiet, good position geographically for going places, price for this time of year is good but wouldn't want to pay more. Has a kind of wild camping feel. Good-ish on site wifi. Would stay again but ensure get here as soon as possible in the afternoon to get a suitable pitch.

Disliked: Poor disabled access for toilets, really awful if you've any kind of mobility issues. There's no flat level entry and the family room has a huge step into it. Needs ramps or non slip concrete slope to get in. Washing up in the rain outside as there's no canopy over the washing up area. The first come first served pitch allocation, really needs addressing. Campers in large pitches, caravans struggling to get into tight ones because of small vehicles in large pitches.

Local attractions

Chase down the Loch Ness monster in a boat, kayak or canoe… at Loch Ness (20 minutes’ drive), there are boat cruises, watersports rentals and the lochside ruins of Urquhart Castle (35 minutes) to explore. If you’re keen to add dolphins to your creature-spotting list, your best chance is at Chanonry Point (20 minutes) on the coast. The Scottish coast has more remarkable points of interest, such as the beach caves and stunning coastal walks around the Rosemarkie beaches (15 minutes) and Ullapool (an hour), a pretty fishing town. Other ripe walking grounds include Ord Hill (10 minutes’ walk) and its gorgeous views over Inverness, the Ben Wyvis trailhead (50 minutes’ drive) river trail, the ancient pinewoods in Glen Affric (45 minutes) or a sightseeing-themed wander through the streets of Inverness (10 minutes) itself. Mountain biking trails more your kind of thing? Head to the Learnie Red Rock Trails (20 minutes). Otherwise, you may want to bike, climb or hike in the Aviemore and the Cairngorms (35 minutes) for other outdoorsy days out.
