What customers say

This well-maintained campsite offers stunning lochside views, clean facilities, and spacious pitches. Guests loved the friendly staff and convenient location near Fort William. Kayaking and paddleboarding facilities were a hit. Minor issues included dated showers and occasional midges/noise, but most highly recommend and plan to return.

Primitive grass tent campsite (four person)

Liked Such a nice campsite, quiet and calm - this came as a surprise given that it's near a lumber yard-, with fabulous facilities. We have spotted dolphins ( or porpoises- not sure 🫣), potentially an otter and numerous birds on the beach and watched some amazing sunsets into the loch. The drying line and the picnic bench available in every tent area were greatly appreciated.

Primitive grass tent campsite (four person)

Liked Great space and location - it's big but divided into different areas so it doesn't feel it. Nice to walk along by the loch. Convenient for Fort William and nearby munroes. Easy / attractive drives to places such as Glenfinnan and Plockton. Limited contact with staff but they were lovely when I did speak with them. Easy after office hours arrival. Showers etc decent. Good wifi (when it was working - see below).

Disliked Wifi vanished in my area for the second bit of my trip (was OK elsewhere on site) - I unfortunately wasn't around during office hours after this to tell someone and it might have been easy to fix if I had. Really could have done with somewhere to refreeze icepacks and it'd be nice to have somewhere to sit and charge stuff if you don't have an electric hookup. Some off-site noise at night but pretty low and steady so didn't bother me particularly. None of this would stop me staying again, I mention it only so others can make informed decisions. Also, I hate those 'recommend to a friend' questions - I never recommend anything but an honest answer looks negative when that's not my intention.

Route directions

From junction 10 on the M9 motorway at Stirling, turn left onto the A84, following the signs for Callander, Crianlarich and Fort William (A85 and A82). The site is about 5 miles from Fort William. To get there, continue on the A82 for about 2 miles in the direction of Inverness. At the traffic lights and mini roundabout (next to the BP garage), turn left. Follow the directions to Corpach and Mallaig on the A830. Go past Corpach village for about 1 mile until you see a big signpost and the entrance on the left-hand side. From Fort William station you can jump into a taxi (usually about £10) or on a bus (destination Corpach). Buses run every 20 mins throughout the day and every hour or so in the evening. From Corpach bus stop it is a walk of about a mile. There is also a local bus (Shiel Buses) which operates from Corpach Village; however it only runs three times a day, each way. It will pick up or drop off outside the park entrance. Fort William has regular coach and rail connections from most major UK towns.

Local attractions

Activities on land, sea and in air are the order of the day in Fort William and the Highlands, with almost every outdoor adrenaline-focused activity possible catered for. Get an overview of it all at the Nevis Range Mountain Centre, which has high wires, snow sports, the Mountain Bike World Cup each summer, and the country’s only mountain gondola for scenic sights. More sedately, the glens around this area are prime fishing spots to land brown trout and Atlantic salmon, and there are mackerel and herring shoals off the coast. If you’re new to the art, local excursion companies provide all tackle, training and equipment. Go out on the water less hair-raisingly than in a raft or kayak with a cruise down Loch Linnhe, on the Sound of Sleat, on the Caledonian Canal or down Loch Shiel to Acharacle. There are boat trips from Fort William pier to Seal Island and its breeding colony of grey seals, with seal spotting and birdwatching trips available from several other nearby islands including Skye, Craigleith and Colonsay. Within an hour, beachcombers can reach the famed silver sands of Morar; look out for Nessie’s cousin Morag at nearby Loch Morar. Several indoor activity centres and attractions are within easy reach too for rainy days: that ice-climbing can be had at The Ice Factor in Kinlochleven, or see how Highlanders used to live at the living history Highland Folk Museum at Newtonmore (there’s a West Highlands Museum in Fort William too). The Scottish Sea Life Sanctuary at Oban and the Kincraig Wildlife Park at Kingussie are both just over an hour’s drive away, or take a stroll to the award-winning Treasures of the Earth a mile and a half away from Linnhe Lochside Holidays with its caves displaying crystals, gemstones and fossils. (Grownup concerns can be met by a tour of the Ben Nevis Distillery.) Loch Ness, the Isle of Skye and the other Hebridean islands are all easily reachable for day trips, and Inverness is about an hour and a half’s drive away. For golf – another Scottish essential – four golf courses are around Lochaber and Fort William, all in seriously scenic locations: Fort William, Spean Bridge, Traigh and Fort Augustus on the shore of Loch Ness.
