  • Spacious family and pet-friendly park with a country park feel
  • Indoor pool, café, lounge bar and an amusement room
  • Sandy beach, 18-hole golf course, pony treks and more
If the kids say they’re bored at Brighouse Bay Holiday Park at Kirkcudbright on the Dumfries and Galloway coast, you might want to send them home. Sublime Irish Sea views, heaps of on-site activities, three ponds, a private beach and countryside walks are all yours for the taking. It's pretty spectacular by night too, as the setting in Galloway's dark-skies region means the stargazing here is stellar: the subdued lighting on site means you can see it all at its best. Pretty much everything you could want is on site or close by: if golf on the 9/18 course at Brighouse Bay Golf course doesn’t float your boat, wander along the coast (camera very much essential), follow signposted hikes through the local woodland… or launch a kayak from the bay’s all-tide slipway, take the kids for a pony trek or just take in the views with a drink from the on-site lounge bar… If the weather should be less than co-operative, stay undercover in the park’s Jacuzzi and indoor pool. There's a separate splash area for toddlers or the indoor amusement room. Also on site – yes, there’s more – the well-stocked shop keeps guests sorted for essentials and the café serves hot and cold meals and snacks to eat there or in the family lounge bar. Make a visit to reception your first stop, where staff can offer suggestions on what to do and see while you stock up on leaflets, maps and gifts. Wardens are on site if you need any help or info during your stay. On-site amenities include two shower blocks with ensuite cubicles for families, plus separate ladies and gents' sections in the larger block. Dishwashing and laundry facilities are also available.

Liked: The staff were super friendly and couldn't have been more helpful. The site itself was excellent and in really good, clean condition

Disliked: Not much to say other than the opening times for the swimming pool and shop etc could be a bit better but understand the time of year and low demand may impact this.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Very lucky with weather, grounds nice, nice separate toilet with shower and sink

Disliked: We were not told that swimming pool, restaurant, entertainment, bar and lounge ie: leisure centre would be closed during our 2 night stay for tent camping as described on website, therefore would not book September again

Powered grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Friendly staff, well kept site senory lovely, toilet/shower all in one plenty room very clean. Nice area at the clubhouse to sit outside, prices not bad.

Disliked: Only small dislike or would like to have seen is at shop/reception area there was no fresh produce unable to buy anything for breakfast Site could do with more signage for directions how to get to club house ect. Also once at clubhouse it was a bit unclear how to order food. Had to go to bar and that was through a small opening in restaurant area,

Powered grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: The site was very nice, we liked the countryside away from everything feel. Good size pitch and on the whole clean facilities. We opted for a different pitch than the one allocated as that one would not have suited us at all and we probably wouldn't have stayed. However, it seemed no trouble to anyone to provide a different pitch which we liked very much.

Disliked: We loved the fact that children were clearly enjoying their holiday but they were a bit noisy until pretty late on. I guess that's the risk you take when camping.

Powered grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: It was so lovely to be in such beautiful surroundings, many places to walk through, sea views and splashing in was a great advantage in just 10 min walk away from our campsite, also we enjoyed so much in time in pool when weather was good enough to enjoy sea ,food in restaurant was delicious and reasonable prices also so handy corner shop wit actual grate o choice and make up all needs for us .The most enjoyable for our children was endless time in playground where children freely and safely could explore and make some friends which made my daughter in tears when we wos on departure to home , Fantastic place very well organised can’t find enough words how happy we were there and we definitely coming back next year for a bit longer. I will definitely recommend to families and to all so definitely will made good memories as we did . And actually it did remind me my own childhood where we could explore and play out till day is finished and only go back home when been hungry because place like this is bever enough time to be there ❤️

Local attractions

Fancy a canter? Brighouse Bay Trekking Centre is adjacent to Brighouse Bay Holiday Park, offering horse riding for all ages and abilities (weather dependent and seasonal) from fully trained staff; ask at the holiday park reception for details. Elsewhere, Dumfries and Galloway is packed with pursuits for all ages and interests – and it must be pointed out here that the ice cream and nature trails of the Cream O’Galloway ice cream factory are a mere 15 minutes away… Also nearby – how clever is Galloway as a visitor destination – the Cocoabean Company at Kirkcudbright has interactive children’s workshops and a chocolate shop (hurrah) alongside well-equipped and roomy indoor and outdoor play areas. While in town, kick around the grounds of 16th-century Maclellans Castle in the centre of Kirkcudbright, and have a look at Broughton House & Garden, former home of one of the Glasgow Boys EA Hormel and housing a huge collection of works by Robert Burns (painter, not poet Rabbie). At Gatehouse of Fleet, about nine miles to the north-west from Kirkcudbright, the Mill on the Fleet art gallery holds regular exhibitions and events like literary launches and talks; follow up a morning here with an afternoon at fifteenth century Cardoness Castle or around the thousands of species blooming around at Cally Palace Gardens. And a few more gems that must be seen on a Dumfries and Galloway holiday: a boat trip to huge Threave Castle on an island on the River Dee; a trip to the Gem Rock Museum at Creetown, filled with fossils, rocks, minerals and gemstones, and a stargazing trip to Galloway Forest Park, the first designated Dark Sky Park in the UK.
