  • Peaceful dog-friendly site surrounded by the Ayrshire countryside
  • A 25-minute drive from Glasgow and 35 minutes from Ayr and Lynn Falls
  • Cycling routes and fishing nearby; barbecues allowed; food shop nearby
From the sandy beaches and narrow wynds of Ayr to hunting down waterfalls or cycling around rural towns, fall into the peaceful pace of the Ayrshire countryside at Drumboy Camping. With views over the Whitelee Windfarm and the fields all around, this dog-friendly site is also 25 minutes’ drive from Glasgow City Centre and its museums and galleries or idle rows down the river Clyde. Bring your bicycle along for the ride… follow the cycling route into Glasgow (expect the journey to take around an hour and 20 minutes), pedal to the local fisheries (two minutes’ cycle) or through the pleasant routes around the windfarm (a 10-minute cycle to get there) In the village of Eaglesham (35 minutes’ cycle or 10 minutes' drive), stop for a bite to eat in several eateries, including a pub, café and pizza restaurant. And if you’re in need of some snacks or you'd like to pick up some bits and bobs for a barbecue or campfire back on the site, there are a couple of food shops (or a larger supermarket, 15 minutes’ drive away from the site). Facilities on the site are quite basic and include a shower and portable toilets. Simply unwind, always knowing that you are under five minutes’ drive away from the M77 motorway when you want to go further afield.

Local attractions

Peel back the years and have a look into the history of Culzean Castle (50 minutes' drive), a clifftop castle with the beach and woods below. Look at the jewels in the Robert Adams crown and play in the sand, the country park or the playgrounds. Ayr (35 minutes) itself has a good portion of its own history. A royal burgh, the wynds date back to the 1200s, making it a great place to grab lunch in an old pub, as long as you’re not too preoccupied boating or relaxing down at the beach. Nicknamed ‘Burns country’, learn a little about the poet Robert Burns' life in Alloway at the Burns Cottage (35 minutes) and the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum (35 minutes). Follow the circular Burns’ Trail around Alloway to see the woodlands and parks that inspired him. Hiking on your plan? There are great hikes all around, including a waterfall trail at Lynn Falls (35 minutes) and lengthy paths around the Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park (an hour and five minutes). Here, you can go kayaking, canoeing or sailing on the lakes too.
