Primitive grass and earth tent campsite (riverside)

Liked: Owners were so friendly and very willing to help us out. Facilities were great and clean. The Riverside pitch was beautiful and fairly secluded, a wee walk up the site to use the facilities. We were able to have fires on a night and didn't see many people by the river.

Disliked: Nothing

Local attractions

Rabbie Burns fans will do well around this area: it’ll take you around half an hour to get to Ayr to visit the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum and the poet’s childhood home, now known as Burns Cottage. The 15th-century Brig o’ Doon (the setting for Tam o' Shanter) is a short trot from these attractions, and you can finish your day following in Burns’ footsteps with a pint at Poosie Nansies Inn, a couple of miles from the site. Ayr’s also a great place for a seaside walk or beach paddle; for more activity, there’s a riding centre 20 minutes’ drive from Catrine House and a golf course just a couple of minutes away. Horsey types may well also want to drop in on the gentle giants at Blackstone Clydesdales, 10 minutes away. For a slice of history, take a 20-minute ramble to the rock art site at Ballochmyle, or drive for 10 minutes to the 2,000-acre estate of Dumfries House, home to some gorgeous gardens and a splendid Chippendale collection.
