  • Luxury dog-friendly lodges for two in scenic Kilmichael Glen
  • Lochgilphead 10 minutes' drive; 20 minutes to Sound of Jura
  • Private hot tub and barbecue hut for each lodge
Luxurious, cosy, peaceful, scenic… it's safe to say that the Scandinavian-inspired hideaways at Bradan Lodges have an awful lot going for them. Tucked away in the serene Kilmichael Glen, about 10 minutes’ drive from Lochgilphead, this gorgeous accommodation makes a fabulous base for active Argyll adventures or quiet rural retreats (or a bit of both…). Each of the lodges here is designed to be a comfy space for a couple – plus a well-behaved dog if you’d like to bring one. Babes in arms can also be accommodated, but the site does not otherwise accept children under 12. A lot of thought has gone into the design of these stylish lodges – the warm and inviting open-plan living space is centred around a woodburning stove, and there’s a large TV with streaming apps for cosy nights in. Mind you, it’s quite possible you'll get distracted by the woodland views through the big windows… Also in the lodge are a kingsize bed, a fully equipped kitchen and an ensuite bathroom with bath and shower. Bed linen, towels, bathrobes and firewood are all provided to help keep your packing list minimal. Outside on the deck, you'll be all set for a romantic evening with a private hot tub and a patio strung with twinkling fairy lights. Stroll a little further and you'll get to your barbecue hut, another Scandi-style installation ready for cosy cooking evenings. And what to cook? For a real feast, buy venison from the neighbouring estate or source local seafood in Lochgilphead (which also has plenty of bakeries, cafés and small local shops). For eating out, a pub is 10 minutes' drive away.

Local attractions

As tempting as it might be to stay holed up in your stylish retreat, this is an area well worth exploring. For starters, the Crinan Canal (just outside the park) is lovely for a gentle walk or bike ride. Knapdale Forest (20 minutes' drive) is another excellent option, with nature trails where you may spot deer, red squirrels and beavers. There’s heritage close by, too, at places like Ballymeanoch Standing Stones (10 minutes) and Arichonan Township (20 minutes), one of the Highland Clearance villages. Or perhaps you’d prefer a garden or two? Both Crarae Woodland Garden and Arduaine Garden are half an hour away and worth a visit. For coastal days, the Sound of Jura isn’t far off, with some splendid walks and beaches like Carsaig (half an hour) and Kilmory (40 minutes). You can also take lochside rides with Lunga Riding Stables (half an hour) or join one of Venture West’s boat trips (20 minutes) – they run both short wildlife-spotting trips and full day outings to different islands.
