Primitive gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked: The location is really nice, and the facilities were clean.

Disliked: Shower block very tired. Pot wash area is outside and uncovered, so needed cleaning before being able to wash up.

Primitive gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked: Lochside pitch was beautiful. Ducklings wandering around the van. Recently chipped, huge pitches, all well spaced amongst the trees. Fabulous cafe onsite (open Wed to Sun, 10 til 4) which was very reasonably priced.

Disliked: Toilet block needs updated but we knew this when we booked and mainly used our own facilities.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: The cabin was great - had everything we needed, easy to regulate temerature. The flexibility of the boooking. The location is amazing - in the this quiet valley away from everything, really. Beautiful walk nearby along the river. Use of the fire pit and lots of wood to burn. Friendly, helpful staff. The whole site is spacious and spread out. Great if you're trying to get away from society!

Disliked: Could do with some shelves in and outside the bathroom to rest things on. Especially in the shower where there is nowhere to put your clothes or bag. The Wi-Fi in the cabin was mostly ok, but did drop out sometimes and was low-bandwidth. A little annoying as the TV didn't work, so we were reliant on the internet connection to watch Eurovision

Liked: We were here with our campervan for our second visit, we absolutely love it here. So peaceful and beautiful surroundings. Right next to a woodland walk, you can fish on the pond or just watch all the ducks and wildlife like I did! The cafe served the best coffee and cakes (I didn't try the menu, but I will next time). As I was informed on arrival, the shower block is a bit dated but it was spotless and the shower was powerful and hot. Friendly and knowledgeable staff.

Liked: Pitches and location fantastic. We have 2 dogs and the walking is very accessible with gorgeous walks along the river with impressive gorge and through mature beech woodland. Staff very friendly and cafe on site was excellent

Disliked: Toilet and shower block and dishwashing area. Clearly done a huge amount of improvement work on the grounds but site a bit let firm by the facilities.

From the manager: Thankyou for taking the time to leave a review, the facilities are older but we do endeavour to keep them clean!

Local attractions

Several walks and hills are within easy walking distance; lace up your boots and walk forth, or ask Glenesk Holiday Park for recommendations for walks, activities and attractions nearby and around the area. Glenesk has hill walks for all abilities from the faint-hearted to the confidently striding and all sorts in between. The Hill of Rowan walk from the Tarfside car park should make a peaceful compromise as it’s a doable four and a half miles long, and easy to navigate given that the huge memorial of the top of the Hill of Rowan can be seen for miles around. Make some time for a stroll to Edzell too, lined with 19th-century buildings and called the ‘jewel of the glens’ for its prettiness – in this part of Scotland, that’s quite a moniker… The start of the main street is marked by Dalhousie Arch: pass under here to browse shops, antique establishments, cafés, tearooms and restaurants. Castles, historic houses and gardens abound in Angus and neighbouring Aberdeenshire, with most open to the public from Easter onwards. Glamis Castle, setting of the Scottish play, has guided tours, exhibitions and an Italian garden, and the Queen’s pad Balmoral is an enviable look at the lives of the royals and part of the Aberdeenshire castle trail (of which there are a mighty 17).
