It's free, quick and easy!
- Quiet orchard site on the Wild Atlantic Way, 300 metres from beach
- A five-minute drive from Doonbeg and 15 minutes from Kilrush
- Rented bikes can be delivered to site for local touring
Ireland’s west coast has a reputation for wildly scenic spots – and you'll be in a top spot for ticking plenty of them off at Doonbeg Pods and Cottages, a family-friendly site five minutes’ drive from the County Clare village of Doonbeg.
Doonbeg may well be best known for Ireland’s Trump International Golf Links, but there’s much more to the area than that. On the spectacular Wild Atlantic Way, castles, cliffs and UNESCO Geoparks are all within easy reach – though guests might like to start closer to home base with an easy five-minute stroll down the lane to the sheltered cove at White Strand beach.
When wider explores beckon, the site is particularly well placed for touring the west of Ireland. It’s less than 15 minutes from base to the town of Kilkee, where guests can follow the Loop Head drive as far as Loop Head Lighthouse (45 minutes), while jaunts in the other direction will lead to the famed Cliffs of Moher (50 minutes). Prefer to travel in a more eco-friendly way? A bike rental company in Kilrush delivers to the site for pedalling days.
Spending time unwinding on site comes highly recommended too at this peaceful spot in an old orchard. Hot showers are likely to be welcome (especially on chillier evenings), and barbecues are allowed so food can be sorted without hassle (as can dealing with dishes at the washing-up area).

Local attractions
Stays this close to the coast should always be taken full advantage of, so turn tyres or feet towards the Atlantic for splashingly splendid days by (or on) the sea. Take a 15-minute drive for kayaking tours in Kilkee, or about 20 minutes for the inflatables at Kilrush’s West Coast Aqua Park.
Slightly further afield, guests can get out on the water by signing up for dolphin-watching trips (25 minutes) or surf lessons (40 minutes). When staying indoors seems preferable, stick closer to site and opt instead for Kilkee Waterworld (15 minutes), an indoor swimming pool with slides, geysers and a ‘lazy river’ to float down.
Turning away from the waves, dive into history instead at West Clare Railway, a vintage steam railway and museum 15 minutes away, or make the lengthier journey to Bunratty Castle and Folk Park (one hour) to find out what life was like in 19th-century Ireland.
Geography nerds – and, in fact, everyone else – should make the most of proximity to the Burren (55 minutes) to explore the cliffs, caves, crazy rock formations and huge cracked limestone pavement at this UNESCO Geopark.
