  • On an organic working family farm in the Wiltshire countryside
  • Bath, Stonehenge and Longleat within a half-hour drive
  • Spacious grass pitches with easy access from the nearby A350
Take strolls on country trails, roam around the Roman attractions of Bath and ponder over Stonehenge’s intricacies… there’s plenty to capture your attention in the area around this secluded, family-friendly site in the Wiltshire countryside. Based on a 200-acre organic free-range farm, the family-run Pop up Outwest is within 15 minutes’ drive from Trowbridge and half an hour from Bath and Stonehenge. This is a splendid spot in which to switch off for a bit… it’s surrounded by farm fields (with grazing cows to greet) and inviting woodland areas, with several footpaths ready to follow direct from the farm. Where will your feet take you? You could wind up in the Cranborne Chase or emerge in North Wessex Downs (both Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty). The smart streets of Bath are about half an hour’s drive away, if you fancy a change of scenery. Life on site is pretty straightforward. With easy access from the nearby A350, you can slip through the private gate into the spacious grassy field without too much fuss, and pick whichever pitch you like the look of. Whip up a barbecue or hire a firepit, either one being a mighty fine idea to keep you toasty as you spend evenings gazing out over views of the Westbury White Horse, wildlife and the surrounding farmlands. Facilities here are minimal to preserve the peace, but guests will have access to portable toilets in the pitching field.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Perfect Basic camping. A large field to pitch your tent wherever you want. Just toilets, bins and a water point which is all we needed for two nights camping. I can highly recommend this site if you are looking for the same thing.

Local attractions

Jousting kit at the ready… the Iron Age hillforts at Bratton Camp and White Horse (10 minutes’ drive) are great places to see what it was like defending the hillside from invaders. You can swoop over the white horse moulded into the hillside while paragliding if you're feeling intrepid… or just hike your way up. Fast forward a fair few centuries to a gentler backdrop at Great Chalfield Manor (20 minutes), which brings arts and crafts to a 15th-century house and gardens. There are more lovely landscapes at Prior Park Landscape Garden (half an hour), with views over Bath. In Bath city centre (half an hour), pass over Pulteney Bridge and into the Roman Baths and Thermae Bath Spa, where Romans once bathed in thermal springs, or potter around the city’s street markets. And for more city sights, in Salisbury (45 minutes), look out for Britain’s tallest spire and the world’s oldest clock. It's just a short drive from the landmark of Stonehenge (half an hour), where you can puzzle over prehistoric times. Who would have thought monkeys chatter and lions lurk in this area, too? At Longleat House and Safari Park (20 minutes), you’ll likely see them all. For birds of prey, head to Mere Down Falconry (35 minutes) and for elegant elk and bison, Bush Farm Bison Centre (35 minutes) will complete your animal encyclopaedia.
