  • Luxury pod on a scenic Wiltshire working farm in Rood Ashton Park
  • A 35-minute drive from Bath, Stonehenge and Avebury
  • Single pod with private garden, decking, firepit and fitted kitchen
For anyone craving their own private slice of quiet and solitude, how does a luxury pod stay in the lovely Rood Ashton Park sound? If your answer is ‘phenomenal’, sidle along to Peace In A Pod, a family-friendly glampsite 10 minutes’ drive from Wiltshire’s Trowbridge. On a working farm and down a private road, this site is well placed for rural escapades, whether that means wanders through the Wiltshire countryside or fishing in the Rood Ashton Park fishing pond (about 780 feet away), which is free for guests. Unwinding with nothing to disturb the peace other than bird calls and the wildlife that rambles through the private garden comes highly recommended too. The sole pod here has private decking equipped with patio furniture on which guests can ensconce selves while soaking up those rural views, and the private firepit just a few steps from the deck will see cosy stargazing nights easily managed. When time comes to eat, there’s a fully fitted kitchen in the pod, and barbecues are allowed on site, so trips into Trowbridge for groceries should set you up for all the day’s meals.

Local attractions

Stays round here ought to start at what is arguably one of the UK’s most famous spots: Stonehenge, 35 minutes’ drive from base. The prehistoric henge is a must-visit for marvelling at the ingenuity of ancient humans, and the nearby Avebury (also 35 minutes) – which is the largest megalithic stone circle in the world – should be added to lists too. More recent history can be explored in the famed city of Bath (35 minutes), where visitors can ramble about the abbey, museums, art galleries and Assembly Rooms, or spend an afternoon at the Roman baths the city is named after. Closer at hand, trips to Lacock Abbey (25 minutes), Devizes Castle (25 minutes), Bratton Camp and White Horse (15 minutes), Westwood Manor (20 minutes) and Great Chalfield Manor and Gardens (20 minutes) are essentials. If the latter inspires days in nature, make treks to the Cotswolds (20 minutes), North Wessex Downs (30 minutes) and Cranborne Chase (25 minutes) for hours spent in the great wide open, or opt for trips to Iford Manor Gardens (25 minutes) and the Courts Garden (15 minutes). The site’s also 25 minutes from Longleat for visits to the Georgian manor, explores of the safari park and losing the kids in the maze.
