  • Rural Wiltshire site 15 minutes' drive from the North Wessex Downs
  • White Horse at Uffington 20 minutes’ drive; Oxford 40 minutes
  • Yoga and meditation workshops on site; barbecues provided
Surrounded by the spectacular Wilshire countryside and agricultural land, peaceful Daisy’s Farm has large pitches on an ancient ridge and furrow grassy field that forms part of a three-acre smallholding growing summer fruits and vegetables. Staying here puts you within easy reach of not one, but two areas of outstanding natural beauty: the North Wessex Downs (15 minutes’ drive) and the Cotswolds (half an hour). Meanwhile, Swindon is a 20-minute drive on the A420, should you require shops or big-town attractions during your holiday. However, chances are you’ll be happy to soak up the natural vibes, make friends with the resident geese and explore the local woodlands with your dog, who is a welcome guest here. Perhaps you’d like to have a go at the Ridgeway, an ancient track that goes past the Neolithic remains at Wayland’s Smithy (10 minutes) and the chalk-cut White Horse at Uffington (20 minutes). Throughout the summer, the owners also run workshops on spiritual development, focusing on things like meditation and yoga – if that’s your jam, don’t forget to pack your mat. There are also evening singing sessions around the communal fire. Nearby villages and hamlets like Wanborough and Ashbury (both 10 minutes) beckon with pretty stone cottages and thatched houses… not to mention a handful of country pubs serving traditional meals and real ales, which you can savour in front of a roaring fire or in the beer garden. If you’d rather do your own cooking, barbecues are provided, and you can source your provisions in Shrivenham (five minutes) or at a well-stocked supermarket a 10-minute drive away. The site also has a toilet block, hot-water showers and a washing-up area.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Small campsite run by a friendly couple. We initially booked two nights but extended for an extra night which they happily accommodated. Tidy facilities. Large shower room with plenty of hot water. Fairly close to the local trainline but this didn't disturb us too much.

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: It is a quiet, beautiful setting, close to Uffington White Horse. The facilities have one flush toilet, one compost toilet and a shower. You could also rent a fire pit and buy wood. On the night we stayed, the owners were having a peace prayer gathering, in which you could join in the singing and playing of the many instruments. My nephew loved this.

Disliked: The shower went between hot and cold...

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: We just came back from Daisy's farm and had a lovely stay. It's a very relaxed campsite and the owners are friendly. It's a very covenient location for walking around the Ridgeway (Uffington White Horse, Wayland Smithy, Barbury Castle), Avebury, Swindon and even Oxford. There was so much space for my children to play around and the site very family friendly. They keep some geese, which my children loved and the owner let them feed them. They have fire pits for hire and sell wood/coal for them - all reasonably priced - and we loved the homegrown vegs and fruits on sale.

Disliked: No hot water for washing up
