  • Peaceful meadow on a Somerset alpaca farm
  • A 20-minute drive from the Quantock Hills; half an hour from Exmoor
  • Footpaths from site to local pubs
A fan of the furry alpaca kind and places for hiking, mountain biking and pony trekking? On Pickney Farm, you’ll plot down in a peaceful four-acre rural patch with a herd of alpacas for your neighbours and outdoor activities in the Quantock Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty 20 minutes’ drive away - and the sounds of birds, horses and the odd tractor. In the isolated hamlet of Pickney, 15 minutes’ drive from Taunton, this four-acre field is behind a small farmhouse with views of the Quantock and Blackdown hillsides and starry skies by night. Pitches are spacious and spaced out with access to a compost toilet, gas-powered hot shower, sink and natural washing products, plus a dishwashing area, fridge and freezer in the farmyard. There’s also a footpath from the farm towards Kingston St Mary's pub or to Bishops Lydeard’s brewery and steam train (day trip to the coast, anyone?). For a more strenuous hike, you may follow a footpath to the Quantock Hills for views as far as Wales and Glastonbury too.

Blossom primitive grass tent campsite (four person)

Liked Very relaxed site with good shower, pitches and a well done, clean compost loo (prefer these to normal camping loos when done properly). Owners frequently passing by and very welcoming and friendly. My mate and I were bike camping and borrowed some chain oil and a pump - Franc and Maxine couldn’t be much more accommodating.
Also, fridge and freezer - which meant the beer that had been in our bike bags all day could be made ice cold after set up. Brilliant.
Second visit and will return again! Many thanks.

Disliked Nothing, it was all good.

Bonny primitive grass tent campsite (five person)

Liked Lovely wild feel to the campsite with clean loo and shower

Disliked Don't recommend using the paths through the fields at the back as there were a lot of vegetation and crops to clamber over!
