  • Somerset farmstead glamping site with sea views near Blue Anchor
  • Exmoor National Park 15 minutes’ drive; beach 10 minutes’ walk
  • Next to the West Somerset Railway; station 10 minutes' walk away
If you can’t decide between moorland and seaside for your Somerset stay, make your way to Marshwood Copse. This rural site is sandwiched between Exmoor National Park (15 minutes’ drive) for long bracing hikes, and Blue Anchor beach (10 minutes’ walk) for family days out on the sands by the Bristol Channel. The campsite has views of the sea as well as the West Somerset Railway, which runs alongside the fields of this historic working farmstead. Railway buffs can happily watch steam trains chug past from their pitches or take a ride from the heritage station in Blue Anchor, 10 minutes' walk. In fact, this site is so well placed for local attractions that you can abandon the car for the day and pretty much walk everywhere. If you’d like to stretch your legs on a long hike, set off for medieval Dunster (an hour on foot), or stick closer to basecamp with a visit to the local pubs and cafés within 20 minutes’ walk. If you do have the car, head for harbourside Watchet (10 minutes’ drive) for fish and chips from the takeaways or stock up on camping essentials in Minehead (15 minutes), where there's also an indie cinema – handy for those days when the weather isn’t playing ball.

What customers say

Tranquil, roomy site with rural/sea views & a steam train! Hosts are super friendly. Clean compost toilets & showers never had queues. Guests loved choosing their spot. Basic, but idyllic setting, peace, and nearby attractions/beaches are big pluses. A few signage tips.

Bell tent

Liked This is a beautiful site! The owners, Lisa and John are attentive, thoughtful and kind. They have created a little piece of blissful relaxation on this beautiful plot of land just a short walk from the beach. It is very peaceful and quiet, with stunning views of the countryside and the water. They have built two eco friendly sawdust loos that are maintained to the highest standards. Every detail has been carefully thought of. There is a shower thats heated with propane.
The bell tent we stayed in accommodated myself and my two teenage boys. We all slept very well. I had a lovely double bed and my boys each had their own camping cot.
This is a working farm! Enjoy the sites and sounds!
Coffee in the morning was met with a quiet peaceful view of the sea and the countryside and the sun peeking over the hedge behind us.
Evening sunsets were glorious. We took the steam train and enjoyed the sites, stopping at Dunster for the castle. We enjoyed walking through Watchet and the village market had lots to offer!
This is a gem of a site.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked The hosts were very welcoming. The site is small, quiet and peaceful. There were only 10 other campers in a large field meaning we had plenty of space. We couldn't really hear the other families or the children playing. I was apprehensive about the compost toilet, but it was cleaned regularly and didn't smell at all. There are 2 toilets and 1 shower which I thought there might be a queue for them on a morning. We didn't queue once.
We were allowed to pick our pitch, we picked a pitch with a distant sea view.
I most liked the peacefulness of the site. Sitting outside the tent on a morning listening to the birds and watching the steam train pass in the distance was beautiful.
We drove into Minehead for fish and chips and some supplies from the supermarket.
We went crabbing and fishing in Watchet harbour and chilled out at the campsite on an evening. There is plenty to see and do locally. This is an excellent base in a fantastic location. I highly recommend anyone staying here.
We will definitely be returning.

From the manager: Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a lovely review :)

You encapsulate perfectly what we love about the location and we keep pur pitch numbers deliberately low so that people have the freedom to enjoy the surroundings without worrying about nearby campers, that way everyone has fun :)

Hopefully we will get to host you again in the future.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked A really friendly welcome. They were happy to charge my phone. Loads of space in the field - they don't overbook. Easy to access from the coast path. Walking distance to watch the steam trains come in and out of the station and to places to eat for breakfast and dinner.

Local attractions

There’s loads for animal-mad families to see: get up close to creepy crawlies and reptiles at Tropiquaria Wildlife Park (10 minutes’ drive) or cuddlier options in the form of rescue dogs at the Golden Retriever Experience (five minutes). Kids can play zookeeper for the day at Exmoor Zoo (50 minutes), or go pony trekking in the Quantock Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (half an hour). The Quantocks are also riddled with hiking and cycling trails, as is Exmoor – trails start right from Dunster Exmoor National Park Centre (five minutes’ drive), while off-roading bikers can get on the Grabbist Hill and Peaks route at Dunster too. Wimbleball Lake Activity Centre (half an hour) is a hub for dinghy sailing and paddleboarding, with equipment available for hire. Turning north to the coast, stroll down to Blue Anchor beach (10 minutes’ walk), search for fossils on Doniford beach (15 minutes) or have a stroll along the shingle at West Street beach before pottering around the pretty harbour at Watchet (both 10 minutes).
