  • Friendly pop-up site in a field behind a Somerset pub
  • Frome 10 minutes' drive; half an hour from Bath city centre
  • Breakfasts available at the pub
Buckland Field Camping is a small and friendly pop-up site based in a paddock to the rear of a Somerset village pub. Set just behind The Bell Inn in Buckland Dinham, this spot is simple but comfortable, with good amenities including well-maintained toilets, warm showers and a washing-up area. This is a spot where it's very easy to leave the car behind. There are plenty of bike trails and footpaths in the local Somerset countryside, some of which start pretty much directly at the site gates, or you can catch the D2 bus from just outside the pub to destinations like Bath and Frome. Other Somerset spots like Cheddar and the Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty are within easy driving distance too. Other perks of staying here include the on-site pub, where you can get a hot breakfast. If you'd rather self-cater, portable gas stoves are permitted if guests exercise caution. Well-behaved dogs are welcome throughout the camping season at Buckland Field Camping.

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Easy going site if you just want basics. There is a shower which takes 2x£1 coins to use it, we didn’t but it looked in a nice clean shed. Washing up station with cold water only which is fine, the toilet is a little walk away for the night time and there is only 1 if the pub isn’t open. It was fine for us as it was quiet but I could imagine it would be different if the field was full

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Lovely basic campsite, situated right next to the pub which serves lovely food and drinks. Relatively quiet with few children. Friendly staff, very few rules apart from the usual expected ones.

Disliked: Could do with more toilets and showers. There was an issue with the shower in that is was actually far too hot.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Relaxed campsite with good access, friendly hosts and free-form pitches was perfect for a group gathering

Disliked: One out-of-hours toilet wasn't ideal - but there wasn't an issue with cleanliness or availability and the pub was very welcoming inside of opening hours. Handy for drinks and food as well (including to take back to the pitch)

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: The pub staff were friendly and the Sunday roast was wonderful. The sandpit was a big hit with our children.

Disliked: Lack of toilet facilities; having only one loo overnight for over 40 campers wasn't an adequate provision, especially when that toilet was out of supplies and out-of-action for part of the time, and an awkwardly long way from the campsites when in a rush with little children. This might have been different if they hadn't had so many campers on site. A few more trees around the field edges would also have made it a nicer environment.
