  • Small, peaceful and friendly site in the Somerset countryside
  • Glastonbury, Wells and Cheddar within a half-hour drive
  • Adults-only site with ensuite shower rooms
Time for a little escape? Head off to The Hideout Camping and Caravan Park, hidden away in Somerset surroundings but only eight miles from Glastonbury Tor, 40 minutes’ drive from Bristol and within an hour of Exeter and Bath. The beaches of Burnham-on-Sea (20 minutes) and Weston-super-Mare (35 minutes) are close by for days out. Turn off the M5 at Junction 23 and drive four miles through wildlife-laden Somerset countryside to go underground at this peaceful place, with loads of room for rest and relaxation. This is a small site, but so popular you’ll probably want to keep it to yourself: the excellent amenities include separate ladies and gents’ blocks with ensuite shower room in each, sockets for electric razors, drinking water and a chemical disposal point. There are also two separate toilets for guests' use. Guests have access to a kettle and microwave, and when it’s time for washing up, even the dishwashing area is undercover… Please note that this is a relaxed peaceful site and so ball games are not allowed. The Hideout Camping and Caravan Park is an adults-only site.

Primitive grass campsite (adults only)

Liked: Very friendly and Hospitable hosts, The shower and toilets are very clean and tidy and a homely feel. Easy to get to and lots to do within a short car drive. Some great pitches for tents and remarkably quiet and tranquil. Will definitely stay again.

From the manager: Hi Warren, Thank you for your review and overall 10/10. It was a pleasure meeting and chatting to you. As you are now aware, our pitch rate is based on 2 people as opposed to your booking, whereby you booked as a solo traveller. The price is quite different for someone booking a pitch for a single person. I understand why you may have decided to mark us down on the one triangle for this. We are an Adult only campsite and in this instance the marking down for child friendliness shouldn't come into the equation. I hope your visit to meet friends at Frome went well and we look forward to seeing you again in 2025! Warmest regards Jackie:)

Powered grass campsite (adults only)

Liked: We liked everything on this site. The pitches were clean and of a decent size. Water was only a few steps away from each pitch. All of the grass was neatly cut and the cuttings removed - a nice change from most sites. The washrooms and toilets were very clean with plenty of hot water. The pot wash areas (indoor and outdoor) were also clean. The laundry/freezer room was very useful - again, very clean and the washer & dryer are free! All of the facilities here are kept spotlessly clean. The site has WiFi - again, free. The owners are very friendly and helpful - lovely people.

Disliked: The roads to and from this site could be a bit challenging to some people with a big van and little towing experience but it's not far from the main road so not a problem for most drivers.

From the manager: Hi Alex and Pauline, Thank you for taking the time in leaving a 10/10 review. It was lovely meeting you both and we are pleased to hear that you liked everything about the site. * I must point out that the washing machine and tumble dryer are not free unfortunately. We hope to welcome you back to the site again very soon, take care, Jackie:)

Primitive grass campsite (adults only)

Liked: The reception that Jackie and Glyn gave us upon arrival. Their explanation of where everything was around the site, and how to use everything was very good. The site is immaculately kept, their attention to detail is spot on. Nothing was too much trouble for them as a host, to ensure our stay was exactly what we wanted. I highly recommend staying here. We will visit again.

Local attractions

Very friendly The Hideout owners Jackie and Glyn can offer heaps of advice and info on what to see and do when going off adventuring in these parts, with piles of coast, city and countryside pursuits available within an hour’s drive at most. The smallest city in England is the City of London, but those looking for a less packed and more relaxed small city sightseeing excursion can wend their way to Wells 20 minutes from The Hideout, a medieval cathedral city and the second smallest city in England. Leave lots of time to get there: Glastonbury Abbey, Glastonbury Tor and the village of Street, home of Clarks Shoes and Clarks Village, are all on the way. (More shopping, you say? Flash your cash at Cribbs Causeway at Bristol, Cabot Circus at Bristol and Bath, and buying All The Cheese at nearby Cheddar.) Although it’s teeny tiny, there’s a goodly amount of things to do in Wells after letting your jaw drop at the rather fab 12th-century cathedral… History boffins should also make room for Bishops Palace next door, Vicars’ Close, the oldest residential street in Europe, Grade II-listed Milton House overlooking the city, and the Wells and Mendip Museum’s fossil and geology collections from the Mendip Hills. Engine enthusiasts can travel to Somerset museums revolving around motors and transport, such as the Helicopter Museum at Weston-super-Mare, and the Haynes International Motor Museum and Fleet Air Arm Museum, both at Yeovil. The history of Somerset is covered at the Museum of Somerset in Taunton (more shopping here at the Orchard Centre), and at Glastonbury’s Somerset Rural Life Museum, in a fourteenth century barn with exhibits on Somerset’s agricultural and social history (you might particularly like the three-seater toilet). Seaside days at the Somerset coastline, Weston-super-Mare and Burnham-on-Sea are also within easy reach, and it’s less than an hour to some of Dorset’s most prized Jurassic Coast and sailing/surfing beaches like Lyme Regis, Weymouth and Bridport.
