  • Adults-only site on a goat and sheep farm with hill views
  • A 20-minute drive from the coast and 35 minutes from Cheddar Gorge
  • Shelter with picnic tables and power points; close to shops
Whether you begin with walks in the Mendip Hills or windsurfing along the Somerset coast, there’s a mighty load of things to get stuck into while on your break at Nut Tree Farm, five miles from Bridgwater. With a goat and sheep farm as your base, this small, quiet and well-maintained site isn’t shy on scenery. Catch views of the Mendips from the site and visit the goats during the day or head to Burnham-On-Sea beach (20 minutes’ drive) for a paddle in the ocean. It’s a friendly, adults-only place here and they’ve added a nice little touch with a shelter that’s kitted out with two picnic benches and table and chairs for alfresco dining. There are power points in this shelter and elsewhere on the site, a toilet block with two toilets and handwashing facilities. When you’re all geared up to get out to the local sights, there are local shops within 10 minutes’ walk of the site (and supermarkets a short drive away) to collect supplies. The Quantock Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (40 minutes) and the Mendip Hills (40 minutes) have hikes galore – and handily, you’re only 10 minutes’ drive from Junction 23 on the M5. The goats and sheep on the farm are all home-bred and naturally reared and because these sweet creatures reside in nearby fields, those of who you are bringing a dog must keep them on a lead, away from the livestock and under control at all times. Please note that Nut Tree Farm does not allow music on site.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: We had a great time in the peace and tranquility of Nut Tree Farm. The facilities were great and our hosts were really welcoming. The pitch was great and we were luckily enough to have the site to ourselves. It was great waking up to the sheep, goats and woodpecker!!

Local attractions

Scoot off to the coast armed with your bucket and spade, because there are plenty of sandy stretches near to this site. There are seven miles of that golden stuff at Brean beach (35 minutes’ drive), with kitesurfing, sailing and windsurfing for those of you looking to dabble in some watersports. There's more scope for sandcastle building at Weston-super-Mare beach (half an hour) and Brean Down (45 minutes) too, with its pretty, natural pier. Looking to order some wildlife with your holiday? Then, a couple of places you’ll want to add to your to-do list are Glastonbury Tor (25 minutes) and Exmoor National Park (55 minutes). They’ll soon get you walking away, as will a hike up Brent Knoll (15 minutes). For a lighter stroll and a shopping spree in one, there's the Clarks Village (25 minutes) outlet. For some of the traditional fun stuff like theme park rides and a water park, head onto Brean Leisure Park (half an hour). Wookey Hole Caves (45 minutes) has arcade games and miniature golf with tunnels and caves to explore afterwards, while Cheddar Gorge (35 minutes) is Britain’s biggest gorge with museums, rocksports and escape rooms.
