  • Three-bedroom lodges at a 70-acre farm in the Quantock Hills
  • Cheddar Gorge and Minehead within a 45-minute drive for days out
  • Excellent group option with bunk beds and well-equipped kitchen
Now here's an excellent option for those times when you’ve got a whole gang of pals or extended family to accommodate. Head out into the Quantock Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, about 15 minutes’ drive from Bridgwater, and you’ll get to Lydeard Farm, where spacious three-bedroom lodges are designed to make group holidays nice and simple. The lodges are tucked away in a hidden valley within this 70-acre family farm, so you’ll have a peaceful little patch of countryside to roam around in, as well as sole use of the lodge(s) you’ve booked. With no wifi and little mobile reception on site, it’s a fabulous place for a digital detox and some quality time spent with the folk you’ve brought along. With access to some excellent trails in the area just around the farm, this farm makes a good base for a walking or mountain biking break – and there’s scope for more activity on site at the farm’s own ‘Wembley’ pitch for football, rounders and other games. You’ll need to bring your own bedding and bed linen for the bunk beds, but the well-equipped kitchen means that self catering should be straightforward. You’ll have access to a gas cooker, microwave, fridge and freezer as well as all the cooking equipment, crockery and utensils you’ll need to get your meals going (pick up supplies at the shops in Bridgwater, which is also a good place to find pubs and places to eat). Each lodge also has its own bathroom with toilet and shower, and you’ll have a dining table and chairs for sociable meals, plus a firepit (with firewood provided) for alfresco evenings.

Local attractions

If you’re in this area for an active break, you should have plenty of options – perhaps treetop courses, kayaking and raft building at Black Rock Outdoors (10 minutes' drive), golf at Enmore Park Golf Club (10 minutes) or riding from Adsborough House Stables (15 minutes). There are lots of walks around too, including the climb up to Burrow Mump (20 minutes) and the stroll around Seven Sisters (10 minutes), which has gorgeous views on a clear day. It’s not all about the Quantock Hills, either – you’ll also be close to the Blackdown Hills and Exmoor National Park, where you might like to visit Dunster Castle (40 minutes), follow the Tall Trees Trail (50 minutes) or hit the beach in Minehad (45 minutes). For a bigger day out, head up to Cheddar (45 minutes), where you can tie in a bit of cheese sampling with a trip to Cheddar Gorge – and extend your day out by continuing on to the caves at Wookey Hole (55 minutes if you’d rather drive straight there).
