  • Family-friendly Purbeck Hills site with distant views of Corfe Castle
  • Corfe Castle within half an hour’s walk; a 10-minute drive to Swanage
  • Direct access to footpaths and bridleways through cracking countryside
Cast your eyes on Corfe Castle from Corfe View Purbeck Valley Farm – as suggested by the name of this swish glamping park, it’s got top-notch views over to the ruined structure in the distance. Settle down outside your accommodation and stare at said vistas or look out for the local steam train that puffs past the site; having a breather at this stress-free spot in the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty will be well deserved after dawdling around the footpaths and bridleways nearby. After more ambling areas? Chat with staff about their recommended local walks and pick their brains for info about Dorset’s best food and activities too – they’ll tell you to head towards Corfe Castle for starters, to check out the castle and then pull up a pew at one of the pubs or beer gardens (half an hour’s wander across Corfe Common). Stop by the village shop while here for ingredients to cook tea (and a jot of gin to bring home – it stocks hundreds of bottles of the stuff). Once such shenanigans are ticked off, speed over to the nearest beaches: Swanage (10 minutes’ drive) has a clean, curving sandy bay with clear waters to swim in plus lifeguards on duty. Renowned Dorset beaches like Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove aren’t far either – factor in a half an hour’s drive for these, or seek out some of the Jurassic Coast's more secluded spots.

Local attractions

For countryside explores, hike half an hour away to the atmospheric Corfe Castle (access to the ruins available by prebooking on the National Trust’s website), then drive to the RSPB Arne nature reserve (20 minutes) for a spot of staring at birds. Wander around Wareham Forest (20 minutes) next or try out mountain biking on the family-friendly paths before seeking out some serene seaside spots to the south of the site. The park’s owners recommend the Jurassic Coast beaches of Kimmeridge, Winspit Quarry, Dancing Ledge, Seacombe Cliff and Chapmans Pool (all around 15 minutes) for fossil hunting, rockpooling and snorkelling, plus the stunning Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove (half an hour). If it's more about sandy stretches for you, aim for Swanage (10 minutes) or Studland Bay (20 minutes), or head west to the beaches around Poole (half an hour) and Bournemouth (40 minutes). And if you’re wondering what there is to do in wet weather, the answer is plenty: Monkey World ape rescue centre, The Tank Museum and Farmer Palmer's Farm Park are all 20 minutes away for family days out under cover.
