  • Peaceful farm site overlooking Dorset's Jurassic Coast
  • A 15-minute drive from Weymouth; 20 minutes from Abbotsbury
  • Firewood available and access to the South West Coast Path
This part of Dorset is bumpy by name and bumpy by nature – and so much the better, for there's much to admire from the top of these hills. This quiet farm site has views over coastal spots that you'll certainly want to snap some pics of (particularly in the evening, when golden hour lighting and a backdrop of sunlit hills make for top-notch holiday selfies). Bincombe Bumps Camping is on a working farm, so between chats with site staff and passing the time of day with the friendly cows you'll be in excellent company. Among the main draws here are the trails (including the South West Coast Path) that stretch out from the site gate. Those roving hither and yon will find plenty of watering holes where they can stop and refuel – weary wanderers returning back to base who need help on the home stretch can find the nearest a mile away from site. There's a play area in the woods at Bincombe Bumps Camping, as well as kids' games such as football, table tennis and boules. At weekends, it opens up its pop-up bar-restaurant. Go ahead and set up a barbecue or campfire instead if that takes your fancy (no need to find the nearest forecourt if you opt for the latter – firewood is sold on site). There are also toilets and showers on site.

Primitive grass and earth tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: The size of the camping site and the view were amazing. The proximity to areas of natural beauty, shops and options for restaurants/pubs. I guess the fact that you had a bar and a kitchen on the camping site can be appealing to some people, although I don't necessarily need this perk.

Disliked: eally windy campsite. The toilets were really far away and not sufficient for the number of people camping on the site. The cleanliness level of the toilets and showers was not the best; the toilets were constantly running out of either toilet paper or soap. During one of the nights, there was a group of people who continued partying and being loud after 11 pm, despite the campsite advertising a 'strictly no noise hour'. Cars were continuously passing by my tent after 11 pm (I’m not sure if these were people managing the site or those partying).

From the manager: Hello Teodora, Thank you leaving a review. The toilets are checked regularly and I'm sorry if they did not always meet your expectations. However, to say "the toilets" (plural) were constantly running out of handsoap and toilet rolls is unfair, inaccurate and simply not true. We cannot control the wind, we are high up and it's the trade off for the views. On checking in, this would have been relayed to you with the suggestion to use one of our sheltered fields. The 11pm no noise policy is not a request, but a campsite rule. If you had phoned the campsite number, the ranger who sleeps on site would have gladly dealt with the disturbance. As for cars driving around after 11pm, that is a difficult thing to control, but I can assure you it was not any campsite vehicle, unless it was the ranger doing a final site check at between 10.30-11.00pm. I am disappointed you did not enjoy your stay. We will take any fair or valid comments you have made on board and do our best to make improvements in these areas. Best regards The Bincombe Bumps Camping Team

Primitive grass and earth tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Friendliness of staff. Basic but decent facilities Lovely views Musical entertainment. Bar Food Logs etc

Disliked: Realise that the campsite is not responsible for the weather but it’s a very exposed field, we had very high winds and had to abandon our holiday and leave early because tent poles snapped and tent collapsed.

From the manager: Hi Ray, Thanks for your review. Unfortunately, you are right, we can't do anything about the wind. We do have 2 sheltered fields and this would have been relayed to you when you checked in. We monitor the weather constantly and always advise our campers to use the sheltered fields if the wind is high. Unfortunately you chose not to follow this advice. I'm sorry to hear your holiday was cut short. Regards The Bincombe Bumps Camping Team

Primitive grass and earth tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Good size pitch spaces. Good atmosphere in the evenings with live music across the bank holiday weekend.

Disliked: Few female toilets for size of the camp. These could have been kept cleaner (comparing to other sites visited this year).

Primitive grass and earth tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: It was a free and easy sight no frills

Disliked: Hard to find even sat nav struggled , facilities basic very windy while I was there saw several people have there tents ruined or broken so had to leave popped out to Weymouth for the day came back tents all over the sight were flattened or being thrown in the bin turned to mine wich i double pegged and it was flat broken and all the contents ruined a very expensive tent had to be thrown in the bin and our holiday cut short never again and I’m sure all the other people feel the same an expensive waste of time

From the manager: Hi Doug, I'll keep my response brief. Most people these day recognise a genuine review as opposed to an unreasonable one. On check in you would have unequivocally been advised about the wind, which is why most of our campers decided to pitch in the two sheltered fields. You either chose to ignore that advice or did not listen to the check in briefing. Those campers that chose to camp in the main field knew the risks and those that lost their tents were very philosophical about it... As for our facilities, I will let all our other reviews speak for themselves...

Liked: Beautiful site with great facilities. We loved the fact there were bands on over the weekend, there was a bar, you could buy fresh coffees and food and hire a camp fire. There was so much room on site to camp and we got a great view of the sea. Lovely showers and toilets.

Local attractions

This stretch of coastline is a hotspot for all manner of watersports (so much so that it played host to 2012 Olympic sailing events). Head to Jurassic Coast Activities (five minutes' drive) if you fancy a pop at sea kayaking, jetskiing or windsurfing. The area is also home to plenty of family-friendly attractions: Abbotsbury (20 minutes) with its swannery and kids' adventure farm is a prime choice for tiddler-focused jaunts (it's also home to a subtropical garden that can be visited on the same ticket). The Sea Life Centre (10 minutes), which is home to impressive sand sculptures and miniature golf as well as marine critters, is also worth a gander. To be sure, there's much to be said for Weymouth's bustling beachfront (15 minutes), but local folk are more likely to be found sunbathing in secluded spots like Mupe Bay (30 minutes) or Church Ope Cove (25 minutes). True, they are harder to get to (and may involve walks from the car or venturing to the Isle of Portland), but the folk at Bincombe Bumps Camping are happy to help you locate their favourite secret spots.
