General

  • Small-scale site overlooking a nature reserve on the Isle of Purbeck
  • A five-minute drive from Wareham; 20 minutes from Jurassic Coast
  • Wild camping-style pitches with access to simple facilities

Heath View Camping is a small-scale secluded site spread over several small fields on the Isle of Purbeck, part of the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

There may be several fields here but only a handful of pitches are let at any one time, so there’s heaps of space to spread out at this peaceful spot. It backs onto open heathland managed by the RSPB as a nature reserve so you’re guaranteed to wake up to the sound bird song, and it’s likely you’ll spot deer and other wildlife too.

In keeping with those surroundings, all has been kept as natural as possible – pitches are of a wild camping style, with access to simple facilities at a small toilet block with cold running water. You’re most welcome to light a barbie or build a campfire to keep you warm of an evening, but cars aren’t allowed on the pitches (those pitching tents will need to park up and walk over, but the folk on site can lend a hand with bulky kit if needed).

This may feel like something of a remote location but in fact the town of Wareham is a mere five minutes’ drive away for supermarkets, food shops, pubs and wanders on the quay. Beyond that, there’s plenty to keep you busy during your stay: Monkey World, Swanage and Durdle Door are all within a 20-minute drive.

Very friendly and helpful staff who gave lots of suggestions of places to go.
Bags of space for our camper van and awning.
Availability of fire pit and fuel for hire.
Adjacency to the open heath area - great for walking and wildlife spotting.
Short trip to Wareham for picking up supplies.
4G phone signal (2 bars on EE), though data rate was a bit low.

Definitely recommend this site for a camp on the wild side!

    Disliked:

    Only one minor.
When we were there there was no proper chemical toilet disposal facility, however to be fair this was declared on their Pitchup web site but I'd missed that. Hopefully this will be an addition at some stage and would make this a 'complete' site for us.

We received a warm welcome on arrival - complete with help to carry everything to our chosen camping spot.
The campsite itself had everything we needed, but was still quiet and simple. It is located in a beautiful spot close to some lush beaches. I'd definitely recommend it!

What a great little site! Exactly my kind of camping where it feels like wild camping but you still have toilet and shower facilities. We had such a nice relaxing weekend and the owners are really friendly and helpful. I love that cars are kept separate from the back field so you don't feel like you're camping in a car park. Will definitely be returning.

Really enjoyed our stay at Heathfield. Felt like we were truly in nature but also with the added bonus of a spotlessly clear small toilet/washing block which was only a short walk from our spacious pitch; it almost felt like we had the field to ourselves bar one other couple.

Highlights were: seeing herds of deer at dusk right in front of us, the stunning sunrise, our amazing upcycled firepit and being 5 minutes from Wareham - if you need civilisation but also far enough to feel 'away from it all'. Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door are also 15/20 mins away with incredible views and walks.
Owned by such a friendly and helpful family too. Cannot recommend enough. Fantastic value for money too.

No Wifi but 3G/4G coverage was adequate (and who needs to be on their devices all the time anyway!?)

Like you, we love seeing the deer at dusk, especially now with so many young ones around.
