  • Quiet rural site in the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
  • A 25-minute drive from the Jurassic Coast; cycling and fishing nearby
  • Train station, pub, shop and organic milk bar within walking distance
There’s a real rural feel at Tollerford Camping, a back to basics site in the Dorset countryside. In an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this dog-friendly and family-friendly site is 25 minutes’ drive away from the Jurassic Coast, where watersports, fossil hunting and sea dips are on hand. Ancient monuments are a common sight from here, with Eggardon Hill’s fort 10 minutes’ drive away, Hardy Monument 20 minutes away and Maiden Castle 25 minutes away. Dorchester, an ancient Roman town, is 15 minutes’ drive away too and home to a Roman amphitheatre and military museum. On site, the main attraction is surely the splendid rural scenery. This is a simple site, so facilities include basic portable toilets and a dishwashing point with cold water. There’s a train station within walking distance of the site on the Weymouth to Bristol line, so you’ll be able to caper further afield if you're roaming by public transport. Conveniently, you can easily tend to a grumbling tummy from the site, as the village of Maiden Newton is under 10 minutes’ walk away. Here, there’s a local pub, well-stocked shops, a post office and petrol station which houses a local organic milk bar. You can also get your mitts on fish and chips from the fish and chip shop, open two nights per week.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Quiet, friendly, close to town.

Disliked: No shower, portable toilet, no other facilities.

From the manager: Am am rather surprised by this review as when asked the Cooke who have given it stated everything was perfect . As for the disliked comment which states no shower that is correct however the site does not advertise it has shower facilities so why book a site without shower facilities if that is what is required and then make a comment under the dislikes stating no shower

Friendly staff, stone free, nice spot

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Such a beautiful spot with views of what looks like a hill fort on the valley tops. Basic as advertised, but clean toilets.

Disliked: Earplugs might be necessary for those countryside night sounds
