  • Self-contained domes in a secluded valley on the edge of Dartmoor
  • Plymouth and Dartmoor Zoo within a 20-minute drive
  • Luxury glamping with woodburning stove and private bathroom
The setting and the smart accommodation are both equally enticing at Dartmoor Domes – these spacious self-contained domes are a couple of miles from Lee Moor, on the edge of Dartmoor National Park, and everything is rather lovely both inside and out. The area alone is quite a draw of course – from here you’ll be able to head out for all sorts of walks and other outdoor activities, and mix those up with beach days and city times in Plymouth. And the immediate surroundings are pretty fab too: the domes are in a secluded valley with a stream flowing through and birds singing in the trees. Making the most of that natural setting is easy at Dartmoor Domes – there are only a handful of domes here, so there’s plenty of space and peace to go around. Each dome has its own outdoor space with a seating area and a firepit for evenings out in the open air. There’s no need to leave the views behind when you retreat indoors either, as each dome has an overhead skylight and a large window – that means plenty of natural light by day, scope to enjoy the views from indoors and the chance to watch the stars overnight while snuggled in your cosy kingsize bed. All sorts of features have been provided here: you’ll have a woodburning stove to keep things cosy, a solar fan for the warmer days and private kitchen facilities where you can sort all the meals and drinks you need to keep you going. And of course you’ll also have your own private bathroom facilities to complete the picture of luxury…

Local attractions

This is a family-run site, and there’s no better way to pick up ideas for outings than to chat to friendly owners James and Em. Their tips often include plans for a ramble to Sheepstor, cycle rides on the Drakes Trail and hikes on the coast path – although they’re also happy to point you towards a cosy local pub 10 minutes’ walk away if you’re after a lazier time. The city of Plymouth is a good option if you fancy a different day out – a 20-minute drive will get you to the centre for the Barbican, the gin distillery and the National Marine Aquarium, or you could stop at the National Trust’s Saltram estate on the way in to explore its Georgian rooms and elegant grounds. Other options might include Dartmoor Zoo (10 minutes’ drive), Pennywell Farm (25 minutes) and pretty Lukesland Gardens (25 minutes), or you could head to the coast (half an hour) for a day on Mothecombe beach or a ride on the beach tractor to Burgh Island.
