  • Luxury wooden cabins 5 minutes’ drive from Hartland in north Devon
  • Hartland Quay beach 5 minutes’ drive; The BIG Sheep 20 minutes
  • Tennis court, fishing lake; barbecue hut and exclusive-use hot tub
With a tennis court, fishing lake and a hot tub on site to keep everyone entertained, what more could you want from a Devon glamping holiday? Top-notch accommodation too? Well, Coastal Cabins, 10 minutes’ drive from Hartland, certainly delivers on that front, with accommodation for families or couples in cabins, all painted in pretty pastel colours. Interiors are decorated in blue-and-white nautical style, and feature proper king-sized beds for grown ups, and bunk beds or sofa beds for the kids. No need to give up on any of life’s little luxuries either, as each cabin has a kitchenette and ensuite shower, and there’s heating for any chillier days. Outside is a decking area with outdoor seating – just the spot for taking in rural Devon views. There’s also a shared barbecue hut that you are welcome to use – you can eat in there and chat with fellow camping guests, or hotfoot it back to your cosy cabin for family feasts. And when you’re not scooting down to Hartland Quay beach (10 minutes’ drive) for picnics on the beach, or walking the South West Coast Path (half an hour’s walk) along the spectacular north Devon coastline, you can knock a ball around on the tennis court, or bring your rod and fish for tench or carp in the lake – both free of charge. There is also the 'Wild Spa' hot tub area, a shared facility which can be hired for an hourly fee (for guests over the age of 16 years).

Local attractions

Backed by tall cliffs, Hartland Quay (10 minutes’ drive) is your closest beach, but further afield, there’s a massive sandy strand at Westward Ho! (25 minutes). Expert surfers can head for Bude (half an hour) to catch a few waves, while novices can take lessons at one of the many local surfing schools. Looking to get cultural? Spy the former mill wheel at Docton Mill Gardens (15 minutes), where leafy paths lead to ornamental lakes, or tour the sumptuous apartments at 18th-century Hartland Abbey and Gardens (five minutes). The pretty fishing village of Clovelly (15 minutes) has a traditional fishing harbour to mooch around as well as a sprinkling of ancient pubs. You’ll find family fun on rollercoasters at The Milky Way Adventure Park (10 minutes), while toddlers will probably love the Swan boat rides and petting farm at The BIG Sheep (25 minutes). To give the kids a gentle introduction to walking or cycling, follow a section of the nicely level Tarka Trail (25 minutes) through cute north Devon coastal villages.
