  • Riverside campsite on a Devon farm, 25 minutes' drive from Barnstaple
  • A 20-minute drive from Exmoor National Park; 50 minutes to Croyde Bay
  • Dog-friendly, no-frills camping with river views and grazing sheep
South Ford Farm Camping is a small, family-run site in north Devon, set peacefully alongside a river. Here you can get far, far away from the rat race to watch sheep grazing in the fields, paddle in the river and enjoy the sunset along with your evening barbecue (available to hire on site; wood and firepits also available). On clear nights, just lie back and watch the Milky Way twinkling far above. Watersports enthusiasts, this is a great base for you. The farm is a 50-minute drive from some of Devon’s most popular surfing beaches, including Saunton Sands, Croyde Bay and Woolacombe. You can explore the wild moorland of Exmoor National Park on foot, horseback or bike, and if the weather’s not co-operating for you, treat the kids to the indoor pool and climbing wall in South Molton, or give beekeeping a go at Quince Honey Farm. A 10-minute drive away, South Molton is your nearest town. Here you can pick up bits in the supermarket or root around artisan food stalls at the Pannier Market (every Thursday and Saturday). For big shopping trips (and restaurants serving all kinds of food) Barnstaple (25 minutes) is your best bet. This is a laidback, simple site with a handful of amenities, including a hot-water shower, proper flushing toilets, a washing-up area, phone-charging station and recycling facilities. Dogs are welcome, but must be kept on a lead.

Primitive grass and gravel RV campsite

Liked: The photos do not do this little gem justice!! It’s the most stunning place to relax and catch up with friends or family. I’ve travelled a lot and spent a lot of time on various campsites and this one has to be in the top three! The toilets, shower and washing facilities are clean and well looked after. They even had a beach which our dogs enjoyed the best! The owners are very welcoming and couldn’t have been more helpful and kind. There is even WiFi everywhere which is a bonus if you need somewhere to go to work from your campervan for a few days. I honestly couldn’t have been had a better time. Thank you.

Disliked: There is nothing to dislike unless you are smoked out by neighbours BBQing at 11pm right next to your tent! And then shouting and laughing loudly and being woken twice. I wasn’t at all happy. BBQs after 8pm in my opinion shouldn’t be allowed as it really did spoil my last night. Again this isn’t the owners fault.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Most fabulous campsite we have ever stayed at, the locations and site in general is beautiful and very well put together. Even when camping we felt like we had our own little site during to the way the grass is cut so everyone has there own little section Brilliant facilities very clean, lo ley little river area with sand pit and dammed off pool for the kids to play safely and a big communal tent that was a life saver from the rain and son. The hosts couldn't have been more friendly and helpful and we would 100% recommend this site to anyone it is a not to miss 5*

Primitive grass and gravel RV campsite

Liked: Absolutely brilliant campsite. We booked last minute and arrived after 8pm. The host chap was brilliant and couldn’t do more to help. The grounds were kept impeccably. Loved the grass tracks and the river beach. Toilets and showers were also great- authentic but practical. Definitely would return.
