  • Adults-only farm site 10 minutes from English Riviera beaches
  • Outdoor haven: trails, tors and moors of Dartmoor within 30 minutes
  • Minibus service and fully licensed restaurant and bar on site
When the choice between beachy hols on the English Riviera and lush wanders in stunningly scenic national parks leaves you dithering, make your decision a doddle with a stay at Widdicombe Farm Touring Park, a family-run and adults-only site 10 minutes’ drive from the seaside town of Paignton on the Devon coast. The site's about 15 minutes from the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and half an hour from Dartmoor National Park, so there are plenty of spectacularly green vistas to hike, bike or drive through within easy reach – not to mention waterfalls, river banks and craggy moors... If the first thing into your suitcase was a swimming cossie, you’ve packed well for this particular getaway: Paignton’s Preston Sands beach is less than 10 minutes away (there’s a shuttle service from the site). If your quick sandy stroll seems to be picking up speed, turn it into a long-distance jaunt by accessing up the South West Coast Path at either end of the beach. There’s a small shop on site for groceries if you fancy bringing picnic supplies on your day trips, or you can hold off for a home-cooked dinner at Poppies, the on-site restaurant (open from Easter to September). After that, wander over to Gordon’s bar for a drink, or to take in the live entertainment.

Liked This is a very clean, well-maintained adult-only site with exceptionally friendly and helpful stsff. The facilities are spotless, modern showers and toilet facilities. Didnt use the on-site restaurant but the barbecue was great(ran by Poppies) the bar was great and well priced.

We cant comment on the entertainment as we were thrown out at 8.45pm as we had a dog who goes everywhere with us but who wasnt allowed in the bar when there was live entertainment.

This silly rule spoilt our holiday as we booked the site for the entertainment, its so pathetic it beyond belief, I mean if the dog is good, "whats the problem", we had to sit in our caravan listening as we were barred.

We have a seasonal pitch elsewhere and our dog listens to all genres of music no problem most weekends, heavy rock bands included.

This is the only reason I have scored it down.

Its such a shame as everything else was brilliant.

Please reconsider this silly rule.

What was also frustrating was the half of the pub allocated to those with dogs on none live entertainment night was full of people without dogs so there were limited seats for those with dogs !!!

Finally Its location was convenient for local attractions, though there is some road noise from idiots driving on the A380 at night, particularly bikers.

Disliked Our dog wasn't allowed in the club to watch live entertainment - silly rule !!

What was also frustrating was the half of the pub allocated to those with dogs on none live entertainment night was full of people without dogs so there were limited seats for those with dogs !!!

For this reason I am not sure if we would stay again even though we loved the site.....we spoke to others who agreed, some left their dog in the van....so wrong !!!

From the manager: We do state quite clearly on our website that well behaved dogs are permitted in the bar in our dog-friendly seating area with the exception of live entertainment nights so it appears you may not have noted that before booking.

Our bar is small and cosy with seating for approx 100 people. You have hit the nail on the head when you say that the half of the bar designated as dog friendly seating room was already full of people so only limited seating available when you got there. The fact the bar gets busy on entertainment nights is why we do not have dogs in the bar as it is too crowded and it's not easy for everyone to get around stepping over dogs. However, rather than a hard and fast not in the bar at all on those nights we have said until 8:45pm so people can sit and have a drink inside before taking their dogs back to their caravans/Motorhomes or enjoying the beautiful summer evenings outside the bar.
On all other nights it's fine and the dog friendly seating area is still quite often very busy with all sizes of dogs and owners enjoying the bingo or a natter and chatter. We feel our current position on dogs is very reasonable and do not envisage any changes in the near future.

Liked Cleanliness and staff, enjoyed the Sunday carvery in poppies restaurant

Disliked Deserts in poppies were poor and quite pricey compared to the mains which were lovely,
Shame there wasn't a bit more entertainment on in the bar through the week as we would have gone in much more often

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Great news that you enjoyed your stay and the roast dinner. They are superb. I will of course pass on your comments regarding the pricing.

If there was more support in the bar during the week we would not hesitate to put back the Wednesday evening live entertainment. Sadly, without numbers going in it isn't possible to put it back on at the moment. We do however, have fantastic entertainment on Mondays and the weekends which we hope you came in to enjoy.

Liked Brilliant time, lovely well kept site. Lovely clean shower block, nice restaurant and bar. Pop up food vans 3 evenings when the restaurant is closed. Great entertainment and bingo 3 evenings a week. Site minibus to Torquay and Paignton, has to be 6 people for it to run at a cost of £8.50 per person return. Reception and small shop. Very friendly staff

Disliked Didn’t dislike anything.

Liked Friendly staff. Quiet site. Excellent facilities.

Disliked Pitch was small - had to park our campervan front first to allow access to the tailgate. The pitch was too close to the next pitch, and the road between our pitch and the ones opposite was very narrow. More remote than we'd realised (our fault). Only Wi-Fi option was expensive.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: I appreciate you are indicating that you wouldn't return which is a shame as you have said we have excellent facilities and are very friendly. We hope you reconsider and please let us know next time you require rear access so that you can be sited accordingly. We would have moved you to a bigger pitch had we known during your stay as we would want you to have the best experience here without problems.

Local attractions

This is Agatha Christie country, so if you’re looking to solve the mystery of what to do during your hols, you're sorted here too. Make your way into Torquay a 15-minute drive away for the Agatha Christie Mile – a walking tour of spots that inspired the author – and Kents Cavern, a prehistoric cave that served as Hampsley Cavern in her novel The Man in the Brown Suit. For a glimpse of Christie’s personal life, Greenway House at Brixham is where she spent summer and Christmas hols. If Greenway House whet your appetite for stately homes, zip along to Compton Castle (five minutes) for house and garden tours, or Cockington Country Park (10 minutes) for strolls around the extensive grounds and a glimpse of Cockington Court (now a craft centre). Not enough? Venture further afield for Coleton Fishacre, Buckfast Abbey and the 16-sided A la Ronde, all within 35 minutes. There are plenty of museums, steam trains and model villages nearby to keep history buffs entertained, but those who prefer more of a living and breathing experience should pad over to Paignton Zoo (within 15 minutes) instead.
