  • Quiet, family-run glamping site on a working dairy farm in north Devon
  • Private shower, toilet and cooking facilities for each bell tent
  • Three miles from Ilfracombe and a 10-minute drive to Woolacombe
North Devon, a farm, and luxury bell tents in a wildlife haven close to the coast… if these tick your holiday boxes (as well they should), you might want to check out Cheglinch Farm Glamping. Half a mile from the village of West Down and three miles from Ilfracombe, Cheglinch is on a sheltered field on a secluded and family-run dairy farm, with loads of room to run around and plenty of wildlife to spot. Deer, owls and a family of pheasants all visit here, as well as birds and insects of all sorts attracted to the four-acre field's small pockets of marshland. Each tent comes with a firepit outside so you can sizzle supper against a backdrop of the Devon sunset – perhaps while the kids tear around the huge field or get acquainted with the indoor and outdoor play areas. Kids are also welcome to meet the farm's family of guinea pigs, collect eggs, watch calves being fed and see the herd of cows grazing within the hamlet… (it's highly likely they'll like the cow-themed duvet covers in the bell tents too). Indoors, proper and comfy beds are made up for your arrival, there's a woodburning stove just outside your tent for cosy nights and cooking, with tea lights and fairy lights placed and strung all around. The farm also has a play barn with games and activities for kids, a dining table for each tent, and fridge, freezer, microwave and laundry facilities. There's electricity up here too, so you can charge your phone and other gadgets if you really can't face a digital detox. West Down, a short stroll away, has a friendly village pub, a play area and a community shop selling local produce.

Lotus bell tent (Private restroom amenities)

Liked: We loved this spot, it had everything we needed with loads of space for our little boy to play. Having our own toilet, cooking and shower made all the difference.

Everything was really well thought through, particularly with young children in mind. It was all very clean and well looked after.

The location was also perfect for getting to plenty of local spots within 10 minutes in the car. We'll definitely be back again.

Disliked: The only thing is that it could be a bit noisy being a working farm, but that's very much made clear on the description and there was a pack of earplugs provided in the tent (thought of everything!)

Lotus bell tent (Private restroom amenities)

Liked: Amazing glamping site - they’ve really thought of everything. We literally just brought ourselves and clothes- no need for any of the usual camping paraphernalia which was ideal for us as on a long drive from Scotland. The outdoor kitchen even stayed dry enough for us to cook dinner in a rain storm and the play barn was an ideal place to stay dry and eat it! The tent itself is spacious, clean and comfy beds. This place is fabulous for kids- again they’ve really thought of everything- outdoor toys and mud kitchen, huge range of indoor games in the play barn. Then the animals are another bonus- Guinea pigs, cats and calves to befriend. It’s a short drive to Woolacombe and Ilfracombe. Also just a 10 min walk to nearby village with a shop and play park. It’s a lovely quiet site with just 3 tents. I loved that cars cannot come into the camping field so kids can just run free safely within the camping area.

Disliked: Nothing!

Local attractions

It's a few minutes' drive from the farm to local town Ilfracombe, famed for its Victorian tunnels beaches with rockpools and tidal bathing pools. You can take a trip to Lundy Island from here too, or roam around town for shops, restaurants and shows at the promenade's Landmark Theatre. Within 10 minutes' drive is another famed beach in Woolacombe, regularly hailed as among the best in the land, Europe and worldwide: head here for miles of soft sand, plenty of rockpools, and sloping sand dunes to clamber up. Croyde and Saunton Sands are both about 20 minutes away. For hikes and ponies, drive down to Exmoor, half an hour from the farm.
