  • Luxury glampsite with Dartmoor views 20 minutes’ drive from Exeter
  • Dartmoor National Park and Castle Drogo 20 minutes’ drive
  • Family-run site offering animals encounters and holistic therapies
Little can beat a stay at a glampsite, but perhaps a stay at a holistic glampsite – and one in Devon, with Dartmoor views at that – might just come out on top. The watchwords at Nest and Nurture are ‘retreat’ and ‘relax’, so get ready to do oodles of both when you book your stay. Located 20 minutes’ drive from Exeter and edging Dartmoor National Park, this hillside spot is set in the grounds of a 400-year-old thatched cottage lived in by the site owners. Each accommodation unit is luxurious and extremely private, with comfortable beds (linens provided), a welcome pack of tea and coffee, a kettle, crockery and cutlery, barbecue utensils and a cool box. You’ll also find games and books for the kids, and you can order a toy box, highchair and travel cot free of charge (subject to availability). As well as barbecues, there’s a communal field kitchen that has everything you’ll need to conjure up camping meals and a pizza oven for family treats. Reliably hot private showers and spotless compost toilets complete the accommodation deal. Wellness facilities offered on site (for an extra cost) include a hot tub and sauna (bookable on request), as well as massage therapies, bushcraft workshops, alfresco yoga sessions and the chance to meet the farm’s goats and chickens. And finally, this is not the place for you if you’re a party-loving night owl; the site owners ask that there is no noise after 11pm.

Local attractions

The wild open moorlands and deep river valleys of Dartmoor National Park (20 minutes’ drive) offer up prehistoric remains like Fernworthy Stone Circle (35 minutes), spectacular views from rocky tors like Bonehill Rocks (40 minutes) and stately mansions including Castle Drogo (20 minutes), designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens and completed in 1931. If you’re keen to keep the exercise regime going, bring bikes from home to explore the national park on two wheels. Experts can get off road, while novice cyclists follow the Granite Way from Okehampton (one hour 40 minutes by bike) to Lydford on a largely traffic-free route following a former railway line. Kids with you? Embrace the sea air on Dawlish Warren Beach (half an hour), where you can stroll on sheltered dunes, swim in shallow calm waves and play mini golf. There are rollercoaster rides and go-karting races at Crealy Theme Park and Resort (half an hour), while quieter days out might include a wander around the UK in miniature at Babbacombe Model Village (40 minutes).
