  • Luxury pods with underfloor heating; private gardens with hot tubs
Listen up, all you couples craving romantic Devon retreats, as Dreamview Shepherds Huts might just be the right place for you. Located near the historic market town of Cullompton in Devon, these adults-only wooden pods come with all sorts of luxurious extras inside and out, as well as remarkable views over the Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Each shepherd’s hut has been cleverly designed to fit in an ensuite shower (towels, toiletries, slippers and robes all included), a kitchenette and a lounge corner that converts with minimal fuss into a comfortable double bed. Outside you can chill in your own private garden area, laze in the hot tub at sunset or cosy up around the firepit for leisurely barbecue suppers – and on clear nights, be sure to look up and admire the starry skies. With a woodburner and underfloor heating to keep everyone toasty warm, staying at Dreamview is pure bliss at any time of year. In summer wake up to vibrant sunrises over the valley, and in winter to frosted fields – and one thing’s for sure: whenever you choose to visit, expect to wake up to the sweet sound of birdsong.

Local attractions

Celebrating a special birthday? A fun-filled day spent racing dumpers or driving monster diggers at Diggerland Devon (15 minutes’ drive) brings out the inner kid in everyone. Adrenaline junkies in need of a fix? Skydive Buzz (10 minutes) specialises in first-time parachute jumps. If you’d prefer to keep both feet firmly on the ground, head out on romantic strolls through Blackborough Forest (10 minutes) – pretty in autumn when the leaves change colour – or stroll the tree-lined walk up to stately Wellington Monument (15 minutes) for views over the Blackdown Hills. Other romantic spots in Devon include Wildwood Escot (half an hour), where you can lose each other in the hedge maze and reunite to get up close to wolves, lynx, and brown bears in spacious enclosures. Go underground for a guided tour of the manmade caverns in mysterious Beer Quarry Caves (40 minutes, booking essential), or take a slow-paced horse-drawn barge trip along the Grand Western Canal from Tiverton (25 minutes).
