Primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Gorgeous camping spot! Exceptionally clean, with the owners always working on the land/amenities to keep it up together. The place is exactly as described. Not overly packed with campers, leaving the middle part of the field for children to play safely. It was the little extra's the owners added which really ticked the boxes for us - a separate enclosed area with a table and benches, x2 kettles (free tea, coffee & sugar available if needed) ceramic mugs - which was amazing as we had forgotten to bring our kettle and a mug each!), x2 fridges, x2 freezers, hot water bottles, a torch, plus a bottle & can opener. I even saw some mallets hung up, if anyone forgot to bring one. Hot water provided for showers & washing up sinks. The showers & toilets were always kept clean. I loved the way the owners covered the outside to make them look more natural within the environment. The owners were very friendly and happy to help in anyway they could. The wife puts in a lot of effort to make the gardens pretty, with various sweet smelling flowers when you walked through. I spoke to a few different people staying on the campsite and everyone was very pleased and happy with the place. A lot of thought & love has gone into this lovely little campsite. You really feel like you are nestled in someones home. Little note to say: The family also own a surf shop in Crowd (Little pink shop?), where they offer 20% discount to camping customers on hire equipment. We needed wetsuits and their son was extremely knowledgable & friendly! We came away with a C-skin wetsuit each from the sale. Happy :)

Disliked: It's not a dislike as such, but campfires are not allowed by the tent (states in description).. However, saying that the owners did try to compensate by having a communal camping fire area. They made a lovely spot amongst the garden, although it was a little too windy for us to use it- I can see they have planted some trees, which will act as a wind breaker later on. Well done! I had a chat with the owner about it, and in fair, he has spent a lot on keeping the grass maintained - Grass is rich, no stones, no dry/burnt areas, perfect for camping on!

Primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Small and well kept campsite. Lovely flat field in beautiful surroundings. Complete with communal kitchen and for our area for a real community feel.

Disliked: Really splitting hairs but some play space for kids and accessible water pipe that could be connected to the van.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: We have heaps of space for kids to play! Rounders, Cricket, even kite flying we see it all on site.. We also have 4 square miles of Dunes and 7 miles of beach on our doorstep. We also have Soft Play and BMX Pump Track just half a mile in the other direction. We do not have kids play equipment on site if that is what you are referring to but what we do have or have not can be found on our listing before you book. If your own hose was too short to reach the tap you were trying to connect to we do have several taps and hoses including a very very long one indeed. We have over half an acre of gardens to irrigate and it's very easy to fill built in water tanks from the tap/hose in the car park next to the bungalow or from the tap next to the Fire Pit. We are here to help with any problem, just please ask if you are not sure about something.. we usually have a solution!

Great site. We will be back!

Local attractions

For a break from the waves, have a think about walks on the South West Coast Path (within five minutes’ drive) or bike rides on the Tarka Trail (15 minutes away). Wanders are also to be had around the Braunton Burrows sand dunes, the largest system of its kind in England and around 10 minutes' drive from the park. Tour tunnels instead at Ilfracombe – there’s a network of four carved out of the cliffside by locals back in the 1820s – followed by seawater swims in the nearby tidal pool. This seaside settlement 15 minutes’ drive from Secret Spot Camping also has an aquarium to amble around and is a gateway for wildlife-spotting boat trips. Kids keen to gaze at yet more animals? Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park (25 minutes' drive) is the place to go for meets and greets with meerkats and sea lions as well as animatronic prehistoric creatures.
