  • Family-oriented dog-friendly site; Saunton Sands five minutes' drive
  • A 20-minute walk to the Tarka Trail; surf school, five minutes’ drive
  • Eateries and bars in Braunton, five minutes' drive; dog walks on site
If you’re heading to North Devon for surfing, cycling and long walks with your four-legged friend, you’ve hit bullseye. Lobb Fields Caravan and Camping Park, a family-oriented site a five-minute drive from Braunton village, has an atmosphere of relaxation and togetherness that includes a welcome for visiting dogs. The site is on the outskirts of the peaceful North Devon Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, so it’s surrounded by some of the region’s most sublime landscapes. Saunton Sands, a surfing and swimming beach with sandy dunes, is a 40-minute walk away (or a five-minute drive). There’s a surfing academy close by (five minutes’ drive) for those who’d like to take their surfing skills to the next level. Just head to the big blue bus overlooking Croyde beach to kickstart your sessions; it doesn’t matter what age you are or howinexperienced you are. Paddleboarding taster sessions, courses and half- or full-day tours are also on their schedule. The site’s owners believe that a holiday should include all the family, so canines are welcome year-round, and there’s a dog walk on site to make sure that they get timely walkies. Foodies, never fear, there are plenty of tasty treats to tuck into around here. Nearby Braunton village is packed with characterful independent restaurants, shops, delis, bars and cafés (plus the Museum of British Surfing, if you fancy it). A few foodie spots recommended by the site include a café with specialty coffee and doughnuts (15 minutes’ walk), a rum bar (20 minutes) and a fish and chip shop (20 minutes) that serves renowned crisped cod in batter (with mushy peas, naturally). There’s also an independent shop selling cool handcrafted jewellery.

What customers say

Spacious sites, spotless facilities with great hot showers. Friendly, helpful staff. Perfect for local beaches & Braunton. Some found shower cubicles small; more recycling bins needed. Many plan to return.

Primitive grass campsite (basic)

Liked From the moment we arrived, it felt like we were back home. The owners and staff are so lovely and always willing to help, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. We felt completely safe leaving our tent and belongings without any worries, which gave us real peace of mind.

Another huge plus was how dog-friendly everyone was — it really put me at ease bringing my two dogs along, and they were made to feel just as welcome as we were.

I’ll always recommend Lobb Field to others — it’s such a wonderful, welcoming place.

Liked Greater by very helpful and jolly staff. Huge camping plots.
Site kept very clean and tidy.
The best showers and toilets we’ve ever experienced in a campsite. Warm showers and everything spotlessly clean.

Very jolly staff who were friendly and chatty with our 2 little boys, who enjoyed going into the shop for an ice cream each day.
Fantastic children’s play area, our boys loved it!

WiFi was brilliant, no problems with finding signal.

Very close and easy to get to beautiful beaches, town nearby.

Fab weekend, already planning our next trip

Powered grass campsite

Liked Beautiful campsite with amazing views.
Close to the beaches and to the town.
Easy to book and very friendly staff
Great choice of food from the mobile trucks of an evening as well.

Disliked Our pitch was right next to the toilet block on the upper field which had the extractor fans, hand dryer and water heater going regularly. At night, the lights are very bright too.
Next time will request a pitch not near the block

Local attractions

The Tarka Trail (20 minutes’ walk) is a 180-mile route inspired by the travels of the famed literary otter. Walk along more than 30 miles of disused railway tracks between Braunton and Meeth, or head to Barnstaple (15 minutes’ drive), where you can hire a bike for faster progress through salt marshes, woodland and riverside meadows. The coastal town of Ilfracombe (20 minutes) is known for four Victorian tunnels leading to sheltered beaches, rugged coves and rockpools. If you’re after a wide expanse of sand, Woolacombe (20 minutes) might be more up your street. Lifeguarded and dog-friendly, this is a popular spot for windsurfing and bodyboarding. There are big cats, wolves and lifesize dinosaur models at Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park (half an hour). If you're after more approachable beasties, at the BIG Sheep (half an hour), kids can bottle-feed lambs and meet pygmy goats, rabbits and puppies.
