  • Among the Blackdown Hills seven miles from the Jurassic Coast
  • Covered pool and paddling pool; adventure playground and soft play
  • Bar, café and takeaway in school holidays
For proximity to the sea without the higher prices of parks directly on the coast, take a look at Andrewshayes Caravan Park. Benefiting from the backdrop of the Blackdown Hills, this middling-sized sheltered site is only seven miles from the World Heritage Jurassic Coast, so the fossil beaches and seaside resorts are within easy reach. Pull up a pew in the conservatory by the covered pool for a comfy spot to chill out while you watch the kids swim. The onsite bar is the place to be for drinks of an evening. There’s also a café and takeaway service for those who want to put their feet up after a hard day’s relaxation. The bar, café and takeaway are open on Friday and Saturdays only, and in school holidays (in the school hols, the bar lays on live singers and bingo at night too). Once the small fry have been fished out of the pool, there’s an adventure playground and games room to occupy them, plus a soft play area for anklebiters. Man’s best friend is welcome too, with good exercise areas on site.

All-weather powered cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked: - hard standing pitches for super easy setup, dismantling and not living in a muddy puddle! - heated swimming pool open 8am-8pm -on site bar with enough drink selection to keep everyone happy with a kids play ground to keep the little devils active whist us parents enjoy a crisp and refreshing pint! -on site shop and helpful reception staff who are super friendly and approachable!

Disliked: They need to boost the site wide WiFi, it's vague in all places even the in the bar!

Camping pod

Liked: We were very pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness and very nice service. Glamping pod with pleasant view and small private terrace with garden table. Very friendly and homely bar. We also used the pool and games room. The distance to seaside towns is also a big advantage. Overall, we had a very nice time and we will definitely come back!

All-weather powered cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked: We had a wonderful stay at AH. Facilities were regularly cleaned and staff were very friendly. The kids loved the entertainment at night (especially the silent disco). The pool was a big bonus for us. It was big enough and the water was just the right temperature.

Disliked: Our tent pitch was not level which made it a bit difficult to sleep or even have a meal as the food kept sliding to one side of the table. Even though there were wifi at the campsite, the reception was very poor and we were one pitch away from the wifi access point.

All-weather powered cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked: Absolutely loved this place. All of the staff were really friendly and this cannot be faulted. Swimming pool was awesome as noted by my 10 year old. The whole place (less the pool of course) is very dog friendly which was a major plus for us. Sensible bar and food prices. We think we'd go back again

Disliked: Mens showers in the touring site (rally field) rarely had hot water. Not sure what the deal was but when ever it was raised at reception they did fix it pretty quickly. One of the nights we planned on eating at the restaurant after a long beach day and was told that they wasn't taking any more food orders as there wasn't enough food to go around. No options were offered of what may be available, but no drama we spent the money on a really good Chinese takeaway. Pitches are on a bit of a slope which is a pain but I've rarely stopped anywhere that was flat. On the upside the pitch did have astro turf on it so that stopped a lot of the wetness and muddyness you can get from a grass pitch. There isn't anyone checking on noise levels in the rally field so every night with new people coming and going there was always a loud gathering taking place. I get it but I sometimes think people believe that their tent or caravan is as thick as a brick wall. It isn't!

Camping pod

Liked: Well maintained site. The pool was the main attraction. The pods are exactly as expected. They are replacing the tent but with the comfort of electricity, light, kettle. Place for BBQ, own wood table and chair. A private deck and the car next to the pod. Tesco at a 10 min drive. Sundays a well packed car boot sale olso very close. We loved everything and hope to return.

Disliked: No hand shower, so we struggled with our fussy little man that doesn't like wetter running thru his face.

All-weather powered cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked: The size of the pitch is great. The site owners use a little tractor to put the caravan on the pitch for you. The toilet and shower facilities are clean and warm. The site is not too big. The staff are very friendly. The indoor pool is fantastic!

Disliked: I would have liked a mop of some sort to clean the shower out after I used it. Squeegee mop would be best.

Local attractions

Close to the park, Shute Woods are a sweet spot for walks. Alternatively, guests can head to the dramatic South West Coastal Path, to forage for fossils at Charmouth beach, take in the views from the famous Cobb at Lyme Regis, which has sandy and pebbly beaches replete with rock pools, or have a stroll along Beer beach - followed by a well-earned pint, perhaps... For family frolics, the Crealy Adventure Park has rollicking rides, there are miniature and model railways and crazy golf at Pecorama, and another track-based treat is the Seaton heritage tram, which trundles its way through two local nature reserves teeming with wading birds. Other options include meeting the residents at Sidmouth Donkey Sanctuary (free entry); the wildlife, forest activities, play barn and maze at Escot; cream teas and glorious English country gardens at Burrow Farm; or an outing to one of the various National Trust properties nearby.
