  • Woodland site in spacious Bodmin Moor tavern grounds
  • A 15-minute drive from Bodmin and 25 minutes from the Eden Project
  • Bars, games room and fishing on site
If peaceful stays within a few minutes’ stroll of bars, restaurants, evening entertainment and trout fishing appeal, then making your getaway for Colliford Tavern is a must. The family-friendly site is a quarter mile from the shores of Colliford Lake, and 15 minutes’ drive from Bodmin, Cornwall. In the grounds of a family-run tavern and hotel, the site is well placed for outdoorsy forays. On the famed Bodmin Moor, and within easy reach of lakeside walks, getting out and about is a must. Those comfortable with lengthy wanders should make tracks for Dozmary Pool, the rumoured resting place of King Arthur’s sword, Excalibur. Otherwise, throw the bikes in the car and head as far as Wenford Bridge to start the 18-mile cycle (or stroll) along the Camel Trail to Padstow. More of a ‘sitting still in quiet contemplation’ type? Colliford Lake is a top spot for rainbow and brown trout fishing, and a licence can be secured at reception.

Liked: Lovely peaceful location, beautiful scenery, the staff were very friendly and helpful and made us feel welcome. The little bar is nice, generally a great site, we personally loved the location as it felt like you were miles from anywhere, just in a pine forest near the lake.

Disliked: The toilets and shower block were a bit dated and not the cleanest, but served their purpose. The washing up facilities were also dated and very basic, but everything you need.

Liked: Set in a small forest with a stunning lake near by. Had bar/restaurant on site. Plenty of space for kids to play. Free pool table

Disliked: Toilet facilities weren’t cleaned at all in three days we were there. The evidence was there.

Liked: Little contact with staff, but he was friendly enough. Reception and facilities were clean but there were very few people staying on the site at what should have been a very busy time. Nice pub and little shop in St Neots BUT its approx 30 mins away by car.

Disliked: Quite close to A30 therefore significant amount traffic noise. Many areas of the site were very tired and lacked TLC and what maintenance had been carried out appeared rushed and of poor quality At one time it had obviously been a very busy site with a large bar area overlooking Colliford lake which was only accessible by travelling approx 1 mile down a narrow road.

Liked: Rural location is convenient if you need to break up a journey. The camp site can offer a pitch with a clean shower and toilet to use. I WOULD NOT recommend staying here for a holiday or any break other than a short nap whilst traveling (if really necessary)

Disliked: Everything !! The right up suggested that "Dave and Lisa" would give you a warm welcome on arrival. Dave and Lisa aren't there anymore, whomever was there has sold up to some hosts who are trying to run nothing more than a restaurant! And have left the camping site to go to ruin. This was once a place where families would stay and children would play! It's now somewhere where contractors, road workers and serial killers might stay! The place is full of rubbish and nothing on the camp site is maintained other than the toilets from what I can see .....

We’re unsure where this information originated, but it’s important to note that we are committed to providing a welcoming and enjoyable experience for all our guests. It’s disappointing to hear that your experience didn’t meet your expectations, but we want to assure you that we are dedicated to maintaining the cleanliness and functionality of our facilities. Liked: Location.

Disliked: Was really messy around the bins and recycling area. There was dogs mess next to our pitch, I asked the site staff if they could pick it up, they didn’t.

Liked: Lovely quiet site in the forest with stunning views of the Moor and lake. If you like quiet and basic this is the site for you. The facilities are clean but could do with a tidy up and the outside area's could do with some general maintenance. They could do with separate toilets from the showers and more toilets but they are clean. The bin area could do with screening off so you can't see the bins. It has a good children's playground and the staff are friendly. We didn't use the facilities as we had our caravan with our own. They have lovely clamping pods but if you were paying for them you would say the facilities let them down. We did use the bar and pool table. We will definitely be returning as we found it very relaxing even though it was basic. I would say though if your looking for quality then this is not the site for you!! Right off the A30 but you could not hear this.

Disliked: Nothing. Just needs some TLC and general maintenance.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback. We’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed the peaceful surroundings, stunning views, and the quiet atmosphere our site offers. It’s also wonderful to know that you appreciated our friendly staff and the children’s playground. We truly value your constructive comments regarding the facilities and general maintenance. Your suggestions are very helpful, and we are continuously working on improvements to enhance our guests' experience. We understand the importance of maintaining the site to its full potential and will focus on addressing the areas you mentioned, including the need for separate toilets, additional screening around the bin area, and overall maintenance. We’re pleased to hear that you found your stay relaxing and that you plan to return. We look forward to welcoming you back and providing an even better experience on your next visit.

Local attractions

History buffs will find lots round here to entertain, starting with some literary history. Five minutes’ drive from base is the Jamaica Inn (yes, the Daphne du Maurier one), and its Smugglers Museum is well worth a visit. Poldark fans will know Cornwall as mining country, and that’s well catered for hereabouts too: it’s 15 minutes from the site to Carnglaze Caverns for underground tours of the old slate mine and visits to a subterranean lake. More upmarket history can be delved into at some of the stately manors in the vicinity – Pencarrow and Lanhydrock are both within 25 minutes, and it’s 40 minutes to Prideaux Place. Prefer history to have a more urban bent? Make the 15-minute journey to Bodmin and explore the jail, regimental museum and town museum. Hols incomplete without beach days can find satisfaction within 35 minutes at the fishing village of Port Isaac or the town of Newquay, but if sand-free days more appeal, it’s less than half an hour from base to the incomparable Eden Project.
