Not that we go mad if we don’t get our regular cuppas, but we reckon there should be a special award for campsite owners who hand guests a cup of tea on arrival. This is the welcome at Rosebud Farm Touring Park at St Teath in Cornwall. The family-run Rosebud Farm is designed to be as peaceful as possible for its citizens to enjoy the serene Cornish countryside and glorious views from the park; retreat here to hide from the world or use it as a base to see the north Cornwall beaches, coast and moors in the centre of Doc Martin country (the Doc Martin village Port Isaac is nearby). The park is adults-only, but canine kids are welcome. For tipples and vittles, the village of St Teath is ten minutes away with the local pub the White Hart Inn dishing up top pub grub; there are shops and a butcher in the village too for picking up some groceries, and we hear that the fish and chip shop at Port Isaac is not to be missed.

Local attractions

There’s a wealth of things to do within 10—15 minutes of Rosebud Farm: as well as Port Isaac (look out for Lawrence Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen), there are the golden sands of Trebarwith Strand for surfing and sunbathing; sampling the seafood of Padstow or scrambling around Bodmin Moor. The National Trust hamlet and coastline of Port Quin is along the coast towards Polzeath and has the South West Coast Path running along its coastline; for closer coastal walking, there’s access to the coastal path half a mile from Rosebud Farm. Tintagel, one of the most-visited places in the country, is famed for its for its fourteenth century post office and associations with King Arthur, supposedly born at Tintagel Castle; King Arthur’s Stone and the Arthurian Centre are at nearby Slaughterbridge. Those who like their legends should also enjoy a visit to the Museum of Witchcraft at Boscastle which has the biggest collection of witchcraft artefacts in the world, and historyheads can take in the several historical houses and National Trust properties nearby: play Cornish skittles at Trerice or explore the Victorian country house at Lanhydrock. Drive a little further and you’ll reach famed Cornish attractions like the Eden Project and the Camel Trail for walking and biking; Cardinham Woods near Bodmin has bike trails for all abilities and the tougher Bodmin Beast cycle trail for fitter cyclists. Prefer the beach? There are fifty miles of coast between Bude and Newquay for surfing, rockpooling and browsing around harbour villages. Regular buses run between the two towns via Port Isaac.
