  • Secluded four-acre site in a quiet, green valley near Comford
  • Central, rural spot between Truro and St Ives; 15 minutes from each
  • Laidback dog-friendly site; village pub within walking distance
To Cornwall’s north coast for the day, or the south coast? Both are equally easy from Penndra Campsite, in a rural spot 10 minutes’ drive from Redruth – it’s roughly halfway between the two coastlines, so you can drive to either in a matter of 15-20 minutes or so. In fact, this secluded four-acre site just outside the hamlet of Comford is in a most handy position for getting out to all sorts of Cornwall attractions, including Trebah Gardens, Land’s End, the Eden Project, Newquay Zoo and the Minack Theatre. Pretty much anywhere in Cornwall is a day trip away. Wherever you roam by day, later on you can come back to this small family-run site to relax and recharge your batteries ready to head out again the following morning. Dogs, kids and groups are all welcome here, as are barbecues and campfires (in the designated areas only, please). Facilities include a washing-up area, toilets and showers with plenty of hot water, as well as a communal fridge and freezer. If you’re planning a barbecue, pick up bits from the village shops in Lanner or Ponsanooth (five minutes’ drive) or supermarkets in Redruth. Alternatively, head into Comford for a meal and a couple of Cornish ales at the local pub, which welcomes dogs and has a Roskillys ice cream parlour for a sweet treat too.

Powered grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Everything about this campsite was lovely. The owner was really kind and welcoming - also clear and upfront with everything. The campsite itself was clean and level - and included a lovely little shop that had a surprising amount of goods - all priced exceedingly well too. All facilities were clean, with sinks, toilets and showers maintained well. Plenty of water points.
Plenty of space per pitch, with lots of room for children and families to play in the middle. A seperate area if you wanted a large area for a camp fire, but fire pits available (with slabs to put them on) should you wish to have a smaller fire by your tent/caravan (with logs, kindling, fire starters etc available from the shop if you needed). Lovely little dog walking area with gorgous views. Respectful rules (quieten down after 9pm and quiet after 10pm). If you needed anything or needed help with anything, the owner did his best to help. Will definitely be returning. Highly recommended.

Powered grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Great site, middle of most of Cornwall, and very quiet place for camping. The manager is so polite and very accommodating, helping us and made sure we are all comfortable during our stay.
Site has most basic things you need and even has a freezer with logs for firepits, soaps, food, and ice lollies you can purchase (honesty box).
Showers, toilets and washing areas are well kept and clean. Dishwasher soaps were also available to use and you borrow bbq sets and mallets if you need one. People who uses the campsite are also great to interact with.
Will definitely book to go back next year with the family and possibly several friends.

Disliked Wifi is basic and slow coverage for phone & internet but that is what you expect for campsites so you can disconnect from the busy world.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked We loved everything about Penndra. Great clean facilities (WC/showers and wash up area). Completely family friendly with a huge area to let them run riot behind the tents.

It was peaceful and quiet, just the odd owl making noise during the night.

I know you can’t predict who is on site with you, but we had some lovely pleasant campers there while we were.

Rich couldn’t be more helpful with accommodating with our late arrival. He also went the extra mile when our tent going rogue in strong winds while we were offsite, with the help of a fellow camper.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Everything!!! The site was a dream with plenty of space given to each pitch and an abundance of play space. The site was about half full during our stay but it is easy to see that even when full the owners have thought about privacy over numbers which is a real treat, we are definitely going to return for a family holiday, and even looking into bringing our scout group for a camp.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked I loved staying at this campsite, and the mission behind it. Friendly, clean and well organised with amenities such as fridge and freezer which was appreciated.

Disliked Only thing was a funny smell in the fridge/freezer room but that didn't worry me too much.
There is not much phone signal- that was not a problem for me, and I enjoyed a break from the internet, but may be a problem if you need it!

Local attractions

So, to those coastlines… Cornwall’s north and south coasts are both full of gorgeous places to visit, so it’s worth making time for both. On the northern side, start with the beaches at Porthtowan (15 minutes) or Portreath (20 minutes), then head to the stunning sands of Gwithian (25 minutes). The excellent town of St Ives (half an hour) should be on the schedule too, for its mix of coast views and top-notch art galleries. Heading south instead, stop off at Pendennis Castle (20 minutes) and Trebah Garden (20 minutes) en route to the sands at Maenporth beach (15 minutes). Venture a little further and you’ll hit the spectacular Lizard Peninsula with a drive of about 40 minutes or so. For more of Cornwall’s top days out, look at Newquay Zoo (25 minutes), the Cornish Seal Sanctuary (25 minutes), Eden Project (45 minutes) and Land’s End (50 minutes).
