  • Glamping pods overlooking Stithians Reservoir in Cornish countryside
  • The Eden Project a 50-minute drive; Falmouth shops 20 minutes
  • Next-door to a pub and lakeside walks; beach within 20 minutes’ drive
Set on the edge of Stithians Reservoir, Lakeside Pods provide a smashing base for exploring Cornwall. Why? Well, they’re handily located equidistant from both the north and south coasts, with Redruth, Helston and Truro all within 30 minutes’ drive. The cute, wooden glamping pods are all fitted out with double glazing and are well insulated to keep you warm and cosy all year around. An added comfort is a heater for a blast of warmth when you get back from a blustery stomp along the beach. Sleeping arrangements involve a super-comfy double bed with a small pull-down sofa bed suitable for two young kids. Cups, plates and cutlery are included, but – just like camping – you will need to bring anything else that you may need. Handy stuff to make your life easier include tea- and coffee-making facilities, a fridge to keep your goodies cool, and a smart TV with Freeview for chilling in the evening or on an occasional rainy day (this is Cornwall, after all). Outside, a barbecue, table and deck chairs are provided, just the spot for chilling and watching the world waft past. In the shower block, there’s a washing-up area as well as a washing machine and tumble dryer (coin operated) if your clothes need a spruce up. If you want to spark up the barbecue, pick up supplies in Redruth (10 minutes’ drive) but you should know that there is an award-winning, lakeside pub right next door, serving delicious food and a cracking pint – and it’s just a short stumble back to your comfy pod.

Liked: This little site is a gem, a hide away from the huddle and bustle. Really clean loos and showers, washing up facilities and a washer and dryer. The little honesty shop is great if you have forgotten any essential, the pub is next door too.

Liked: Was a great campsite!! Liked the little shop, laundry facilities and great prices! But my most favourite of all was DAVE 😍😍🐷 she is the loveliest biggest piggy I’ve ever seen! Had a lovely stay and the owners were great as well. We took a nice walk around Stithians reservoir as it is right beside the campsite. Highly recommend this site!!

Camping pod

Liked: This is a small, friendly site. It was peaceful on site, but well located for nearby activities. Sarah was an excellent hostess, friendly & approachable. The pod was cosy, clean & well kitted out. The pub next-door was also great, with wonderful food & staff. We had a lovely weekend break & would definitely recommend the site.

Disliked: The sofa bed was very uncomfortable, so we got an airbed for the second night.

Camping pod

Liked: Clean, quiet, use of microwave and washing machine, friendly, clean showers, we really like it here as always had enjoyable stays. We value peace and quiet.

Disliked: Wi-Fi doesn’t work If you don’t get to the washing machine at exactly the time it finishes, the door locks and you have to put in another £1 to open so be aware. Coined electric meter a bit difficult if you don’t have coins and no one is in to exchange money.

Local attractions

Cyclists gather around please, as you’re in pole position here for pedalling to the ruined mine at The Great Flat Lode (10 minutes’ cycle) or whizzing along Bissoe Cycle Trail (10 minutes). And walkers, you’re in luck too, as Stithians Reservoir is (literally) on your doorstep and is ringed by a hike through woodland and heath. To hit up the Cornish coast, head north to Portreath beach (20 minutes’ drive) for harbourside walks and bodyboarding, or turn south to Falmouth for a swim off the sandy, Blue Flag beach at Gyllyngvase (both 20 minutes). Watersports buffs should have a go at surfing on Towan Beach (40 minutes) or hire a dinghy from Mylor Yacht Harbour (25 minutes) to get out on the Carrick Roads estuary. And what about Cornwall’s real big-hitting attractions? The Eden Project (55 minutes) is worthy of a day’s trip to see all the madcap art installations and rare plants in glass biodomes. At Land’s End Landmark Attraction (an hour) you can pose for selfies at the iconic signpost, while The Lost Gardens of Heligan (55 minutes) are open for romantic strolls amid wonderful plantings.
